Lee's Study Tips

For incoming student-athletes, or anyone looking to stay on top of their assignments, Lee recommends a couple simple tips that can go a long way.

1. Keep track of your due dates: I found having a monthly calendar with all the due dates written on it to be very helpful in planning ahead, especially in the months where there are several tournaments or duty weekends.
2. Talk to your professors: If there is an issue with an assignment, if you're having a hard time understanding a topic in class, if anything, communicate with your professors. They are very understanding of the busy schedules of RMC, and they are always willing to help you! All you have to do is just shoot them an email, stay after class for five minutes, or go talk to them during their office hours.

Achieving such a high academic standard is an impressive feat for any student-athlete in the OUA, and perhaps even more so for those at RMC, whose college life also includes additional military duties.

"[Being named an Academic All-Star] is an affirmation of my efforts as a student-athlete at RMC, and an encouragement to strive to succeed in other pillars as well," Lee said.

All cadets at RMC earn a degree founded in the four pillars of the College: Academics, Athletics, Bilingualism, and Leadership.

Lee is a second-year member of the Paladins fencing team who competes in sabre. She will graduate from RMC as an Air Combat Systems Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

In her first year at RMC, Lee enjoyed Introduction to Macroeconomics—a class taught by assistant professor and mayor of Kingston, Dr. Bryan Paterson.

"I can't really say there was one single topic that interested me the most, but this course overall was the course that made me decide to major in economics," Lee said.

As for her favourite instructor, Lee praised assistant professor of history, Dr. Cheryl DesRoches.

"She makes history classes pretty interesting, even for me, who isn't the biggest fan of history," Lee said. "I also like how she is so happy to see her students every class."

When asked to describe her favourite professor in three words, Lee said:

"Professor DesRoches is… Helpful. Fun. Overall Amazing."
