Caleb Woodburn, from 6 Squadron, is one of the 2019-20 recipients, earning the honour for a second consecutive year.
Woodburn's Study Tips
For incoming student-athletes, or anyone looking to stay on top of their assignments, Woodburn recommends a couple simple tips that can go a long way.
1. Ask for help when you need it
2. Give help when you can
Achieving such a high academic standard is an impressive feat for any OUA student-athlete, and perhaps even more so for those at RMC, whose college life also includes additional military duties.
Woodburn acknowledged his achievement, but noted a common feeling among student-athletes whose seasons were cancelled due to the pandemic this year.
"[Being named an Academic All-Star] is good," he said. "Not as good as a rugby 15s or 7s season with The Program, but still good."
A fourth-year computer engineering student, Woodburn will graduate from RMC as an Armour Officer in the Canadian Army.
Last year, Woodburn enjoyed a class taught by Capt. Brendan Shust, who is a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
"My favourite class from the 2019-20 school year was a course on computer networks," Woodburn said. "The course content makes you feel like a hacker."
Looking back on all his entire time at the College, Woodburn named Dr. Jing Gai, an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, as his favourite instructor. When asked to describe her in just three words, Woodburn said:
"Professor Gai is… Good at math."
