Heading across the Cataraqui River for the weekend, the RMC Paladins made their presence felt at the Hugh Munby Open, hosted by Queen's. Led by fourth-year engineering major,
Nikhita Antil, and fourth-year arts major, Trinity Armstong, the Paladins earned a pair of podium finishes over the weekend.
Antil earned the best finish of the weekend for RMC winning the sabre individual gold. The Toronto product got off to a good start Sunday morning, winning four of her five pool matches. After earning the fourth-seed for the elimination bracket, Antil won back-to-back matches before winning her semi-final and final match by the score of 15-14.
Armstrong, meanwhile, who competed in individual épée, went on an impressive run through the elimination bracket, following a three and three record in pool play. Ranked 15
th, Armstrong fenced to victories over the 18
th, 2
nd, 10
th and 19
th seeds to reach the final.
In men's épée,
Daniil Makarenko earned RMC's best result, finishing 11th overall. Makarenko went 4-1 through pool play, before earning a round of 32 victory. His tournament would come to an end though with a tough 15-12 loss in the round of 16.
In women's foil,
Stephanie Leach did not miss the podium by much for the Paladins. The fourth-year from Edmonton, Alberta finished seventh overall. Leach won four of her five matches in pool play. She then would defeat fellow teammate Emma Libreiro in the round of 32. Following a round of 16 victory, Leach was defeated in the quarterfinals.
Daniel Galaman and
Dongha Oh had the best finishes for RMC in men's sabre, earning 11
th and 12
th place respectively. Galaman went four and one through pool play, while Oh went three and two. Both Paladins then earned a bye to the round of 32, where they both picked up victories. They would both fall in the round of 16 though.
In men's foil, RMC did not have anyone advance to the round of 16, but did have four athletes reach the round of 32, with
Ethan MacMillan, Aleksandr Lapshin, Makarenko and
Keegan Pike all reaching that stage.
Next up for the Paladins will be the RMC Invitational, while will be hosted by the Paladins on November 2
nd and 3
rd.

Pendant ce temps, Armstrong a brillé dans les éliminatoires de l'épée féminine, après avoir remporté ses trois duels de phase de groupes. Classée 15e, elle a vaincu les 18e, 2e, 10e et 19e favorites pour accéder à la finale.

Au fleuret féminin,
Stephanie Leach a raté le podium de peu pour les Paladins. L'étudiante-athlète de quatrième année d'Edmonton en Alberta a pris le septième rang. Elle a d'abord remporté quatre de ses cinq duels de phase de groupes, pour ensuite vaincre sa coéquipière Emma Libreiro en 16e de finale. Après avoir gagné son duel de huitième de finale, Leach a vu son parcours prendre fin en quarts de finale.
Daniel Galaman et
Dongha Oh ont obtenu les meilleurs résultats du CMR en sabre masculin, terminant respectivement au 11e et au 12e rang. Galaman a remporté quatre de ses cinq duels en phase de groupes, tandis qu'Oh a affiché un bilan de trois victoires et deux défaites. Les deux Paladins ont obtenu un laissez-passer en 16e de finale et ils ont chacun remporté leur duel, mais ils se sont ensuite chacun incliné en huitièmes de finale.
En fleuret masculin, le CMR n'a vu aucun représentant atteindre les huitièmes de finales, bien que quatre athlètes étaient des 16e de finale, soit
Ethan MacMillan, Aleksandr Lapshin, Makarenko et
Keegan Pike.
Le prochain rendez-vous des Paladins sera le Tournoi invitation du CMR, qu'ils accueilleront à Kingston, les 2 et 3 novembre.
