Taking part in the 2024 OUA women's fencing championship over the weekend in Toronto, Ont., the RMC Paladins picked up an individual bronze medal during the two-day event, while just missing out on the podium as a team overall.

After two tremendous days of competition from the Paladins, RMC finished fourth overall in team points, just 25 back of Carleton, who claimed third.

Showcasing her talents both Saturday and Sunday, third-year engineering major, Nikhita Antil won a bronze medal in the individual sabre event, and nearly claimed a second bronze medal when the Paladins sabre relay team finished in fourth place. Antil, along with her teammates, Syrine Farhati, Lauren Lee and Rina Lee went 1-1 in pool play before taking down Queen's in the quarterfinals. They would then come up just short for bronze against Brock.

In her individual event, Antil put together a 10-1 record in pool play. After receiving a bye through the round of 32, Antil defeated teammate Lauren Lee in the round of 16, and then took down Western's Louisa Lewicki in the quarterfinals. After being defeated in the semi's, Antil bounced back to win the bronze medal 15-11 over Jasnoor Kalsi of Western.
For her efforts, Antil was named the recipient of the Dave O'Donnell Award, recognizing the most prolific fencer at the event.

Also competing in the individual sabre, Farhati and Rina Lee both recorded 6-6 records in pool play. In the knockout round, Lee fell in the round of 32, while Farhati, was defeated by Lauren Lee in the round of 32, who had finished pool play 5-7.

In the individual foil, the Paladins had four different competitors competing. Earning RMC's best finish in the event was Stephanie Leach. After going 6-5 during pool play, Leach picked up a victory in the round of 32, before falling in the round of 16. Vas Patapovich and Iris Li both went through pool play with a record of 4-7, while Chelsey Guo fenced to a record of 4-8. In the team relay, the four of them combined for a pool record of 2-1. Unfortunately, for the team, their run would end in the quarterfinals, falling to Carleton.

Leading the way for RMC in individual epee, were Trinity Armstrong and Joanna Kasprzak. Kasprzak ended pool play at 8-4, while Armstrong was not far behind at 8-5. The two would then meet in the round of 32, where Armstrong would get the better of her teammate, before losing in the round of 16. Sydney Hong battled to a 3-9 record in pool play, while Aya Ben Rquia finished pool play at 1-4. Competing as a team in the relay event, the four Paladins played to a 2-1 pool record but were defeated by the Trent Excalibur in the quarterfinals.

The OUA fencing schedule will continue in March when the men's championship takes place on the 16^th and 17^th.

Les Paladins participaient aux Championnats féminins d'escrime des SUO 2024 au cours du weekend à Toronto, en Ontario et ils ont remporté une médaille de bronze individuelle pendant le tournoi de deux jours tout en ratant le podium de peu au classement par équipes.
 
Après deux journées de compétition, les Paladins du CMR a pris le quatrième rang du classement par équipes, seulement 25 points derrière Carleton au troisième rang.
 
Déployant son brio samedi et dimanche, l'étudiante de troisième année génie Nikhita Anthi a remporté la médaille de bronze individuelle au sabre et a presque rempoté une autre médaille de bronze quand l'équipe de sabre a pris le quatrième rang. Antil, ainsi que ses coéquipières Syrine Farhati, Lauren Lee et Rina Lee ont signé un bilan de 1-1 en phase de groupes avant de vaincre Queen's en quarts de finale.
L'équipe a tout juste raté la médaille de bronze en s'inclinant contre Brock.
Dans son épreuve individuelle, Antil a affiché un bilan de 10-1 en phase de groupes, Après avoir obtenu un laissez-passer vers les 16^e de finale, Antil a vaincu sa coéquipière Lauren Lee en huitièmes de finale, pour ensuite vaincre Louisa Lewicki de Western en quarts de finale. Après avoir été battue en demi-finale, Antil a rebondi pour remporter la médaille de bronze en défaisant Jasnoor Kalski de Western 15 à 11.
 
Pour ses efforts, Antil a remporté le prix Dave O'Donnell décerné à l'escrimeuse la plus prolifique de la compétition.
 
Aussi en compétition individuelle au sabre, Farhati et Rina Lee ont chacune affiché un bilan de 6-6 en phase de groupes. En ronde éliminatoire, Lee a perdu en 16e de finale alors que Farhati a battu Lauren Lee en 16e de finale après avoir conclu la phase de groupes avec une fiche de 5-7.
 
Au fleuret individuel, les Paladins comptaient quatre étudiantes athlètes en action. Stephanie Leach a obtenu le meilleur classement de l'histoire du CMR en affichant un bilan de 6-5 en phase de groupe après avoir signé une victoire en 16^e de finale, avant de s'incliner en huitièmes de finale. Vas Patapovich et Iris Li ont chacune conclu la phase de groupes avec une fiche de 4-7, tandis que Chelsey Guo a accumulé un bilan de 4-8. Dans la compétition par équipes, le quatuor a remporté deux victoires contre une défaite en phase de groupes, mais s'est incliné contre Carleton en quarts de finale.
 
À l'épée individuelle, le CMR été mené par Trinity Armstrong et Joanna Kasprzak. Kasprzak a conclu la phase de groupe avec un bilan de 8-4, devant Armstrong avec une fiche de 8-5. Les deux avaient rendez-vous en 16e de finale où Armstrong a vaincu sa coéquipière avant de voir son parcours s'arrêter en huitièmes de finale. Sydney Hong a amassé une fiche de 3-9 en phase de groupes tandis qu'Aya Ben Rquia a conclu la phase de groupes de 1-4. Réunies pour l'épreuve par équipes, les joueuses des Paladins ont affiché un bilan de 2-1 en phase de groupes, puis elles ont été battues par l'Excalibur de Trent en quarts de finale.
 
Le calendrier d'escrime des SUO se poursuivra le mois prochain avec les Championnats masculins d'escrime seront disputés les 16 et 17 mars.
