Paladins Hire Moore-Vountas as New Fencing Head Coach | Les Paladins embauchent Steven Moore-Vountas, nouvel entraîneur-chef en escrime

9/12/2025 2:34:00 PM

The RMC Paladins are excited to announce the hiring of the new fencing head coach, Steven Moore-Vountas.

Raised in Montreal, Quebec, Moore-Vountas began fencing in 2006, and has been coaching in the sport since 2013.

"I am incredibly excited about this new chapter." Moore-Vountas said. "I can't wait to meet the cadets, recruit new athletes, work with Patricia and David Howes in the beautiful Old Gym and build a strong three-weapon team as we embark on a journey to reach new summits and surpass our limits."

Moving to Kington from Vancouver, B.C., Moore-Vountas was previously working as a coach at the Vancouver Fencing Centre.

Prior to his time in Vancouver, he had also worked as a provincial sabre co-coach for the Quebec Fencing Federation, a video and data analyst for the Canadian Fencing Federation and a coach for high school and primary school with Escrime Brébeuf.

"I am excited to dedicate myself full time to coaching, since it's something I have been doing for 12 years part-time, and I'm so glad to finally be able to focus on my passion," Moore-Vountas said.

Stepping in as the head coach ahead of the 2025-26 season, Moore-Vountas will replace Patricia Howes, who announced her retirement earlier this year, and had served in the position for the last 23 years.

"I was drawn to the history of the RMC fencing club and the opportunity to continue the legacy of Maître Patricia Howes," Moore-Vountas said. "This role is a unique chance to bring my technical and organizational skills together to lead a high-caliber program."

The first OUA competition for Vountas-Moore and the Paladins will start October 26 at Queen's, before hosting the annual RMC Invitational November 2-3.
