The Excalibur wasted no time going on the offensive in their home-opener. With the match only in the second minute, Trent was able to break through the RMC defence for the first try of the contest. However, Trent's lead stayed at five as the convert was no good.
A little over 10 minutes later, the Excalibur would strike again, extending their lead to 12-0.
Trailing by two possessions, the Paladins seemed to begin finding their groove. In the 22
nd minute, RMC was able to get on the board thanks to a
Brodie Lowry try. Then just eight minutes later,
Etienne Tischhauser powered across the try-line pulling RMC within two at 12-10.
With halftime approaching, the home side would get one of the two tries back. A converted score in the 36
th minute gave Trent a 19-10 lead heading into the break.
As the second half got underway, the Paladins came out flying. Just six minutes in,
Tyler Karaim took the ball from midfield, went flying down the wing and scored RMC's third try of the game. Following an
Andrew Stevenson conversion, the Paladins were back within two.
After Trent had responded, the Paladins went back on the attack with Will Fenton scoring a try in the 54
th minute.
From that point on, Trent began to take control. The Excalibur scored a pair of quick tries, extending their lead to 38-22 with 15 minutes to go. Trent continued to add on in the late stages scoring 10 more points to finish off the 48-27 final.
Looking to rebound, the Paladins will now head back home and prepare to host the Brock Badgers on 19 September.
