RMC picked up their first win of the season on Friday night in front of a home crowd at Constantine Arena, topping the visiting Ontario Tech Ridgebacks 2-0.
The teams played through a nervous first period at a break-neck speed, as the teams traded chances, but nobody could solve
Joey May in the Paladins net or Ontario Tech's Leif Hertz.
The only penalty of the opening 20 minutes went to RMC, but the home team had no problem getting back to even strength unscathed.
Benjamin Pruneau finally broke the deadlock late in the second period, scoring in his first of the season for the Paladins.
Christian Tsukamoto and
Ethan Coltart earned the assists on the play.
With the ice tilted toward the RMC goal, the Ridgebacks attempted time and again to tie the game. In the final minutes, Hertz left the Ontario Tech goal to throw an extra attacker on the ice, but May continued to have an answer for every attack.
Team captain
Liam Murray sealed the victory for the Paladins with less than a minute to play, sending the puck the length of the ice and into the empty net to the elation of the RMC supporters.
In his first start this season, May finished the game with 28 saves to complete the first shutout of his OUA career. It's the first time RMC has ever shutout Ontario Tech.
The Paladins and Ridgebacks faceoff in a rematch on Saturday night in Oshawa. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM and will be streamed on OUA.tv.

Appliquant ensuite beaucoup de pression en territoire adverse, les Ridgebacks se sont essayés plus d'une fois sur le filet des Paladins pour tenter de créer l'égalité. Dans les dernières minutes de la période, Hertz a été retiré en faveur d'un sixième attaquant pour Ontario Tech, mais May avait réponse à toutes les actions des Ridgebacks.

À son premier départ cette saison, May a conclu la rencontre avec 28 arrêts, réalisant son premier jeu blanc en carrière dans un match de SUO. C'est la première fois que le CMR a réalisé un jeu blanc contre Ontario Tech.
