The RMC Paladins hosted the Nipissing Lakers in Saturday afternoon OUA hockey action, falling to the visitors 4-2.
The Paladins found themselves behind 1-0 early in the game after Gael Lubwele opened the scoring just three minutes in.
After finishing the first period with their 1-0 lead intact, the Lakers doubled their lead immediately after a RMC had successfully killed a penalty with a goal from Jacob Collins. Cole Stewart made it 3-0 Nipissing around the midway point of the second period.
Scoring his first of the game,
Mitch Larabie tipped in a point shot from
Dylan Wells with five minutes to play in the period. The assist marked the first point of Wells' OUA career, while
Ryan Smith earned the second assist as the Paladins got on the board to make it 3-1.
Jacob Hickey got the Lakers their fourth goal of the game midway through the final period of play, but RMC responded two minutes later.
Larabie's second of the game came on the power play when he batted in a rebound at the side of the goal on a shot from
Noah Rowe, which was also assisted by
Christian Tsukamoto. Rowe and Tsukamoto both earned their fifth assists of the season on the play, while Larabie notched his team-leading fourth goal of 2021-22.
Despite outshooting Nipissing 13-6 in the third period, and playing for over two minutes at the end of the game with the net empty, the Paladins were unable to narrow the gap any further.
In his third consecutive start,
Joey May made 31 saves.
Saturday marked RMC's final game of 2021, as the student-athletes are now off for the winter break. The Paladins first game of 2022 will take place in Kingston when they travel across the causeway to visit the Queen's Gales on January 7 at 7:30 PM.

Les Paladins ont encaissé le premier but tôt dans le match après que Gael Lubwele a ouvert la marque après seulement trois minutes de jeu.
Après avoir conclu la première période avec cette avance d'un but, les Lakers ont doublé l'écart immédiatement après que le CMR eut écoulé une pénalité avec succès. Jacob Collins a ainsi porté la marque à 2-0 avant que Cole Stewart ne fasse 3-0 sur Nipissing à mi-chemin en deuxième période.
Sur son premier but du match,

Jacob Hickey a marqué le quatrième but des Lakers à mi-chemin en troisième période, mais le CMR a répondu deux minutes plus tard.
Le deuxième but de Larabie dans le match a été inscrit en avantage numérique quand il a frappé la rondelle sur un retour tout juste à côté du but sur un tir de
Noah Rowe.
Christian Tsukamoto a aussi amassé une mention d'aide sur le jeu. Rowe et Tsukamoto obtenaient ainsi leur cinquième mention d'aide de la saison sur le jeu tandis que Larabie y allait de son quatrième but en 2021-2022, au premier rang chez les siens à ce chapitre.
Malgré sa domination 13-6 au chapitre des tirs en troisième période et jouant avec un sixième patineur pendant plus de deux minutes à la fin du match en retirant leur gardien, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de rattraper les Lakers.

Joey May a réalisé 31 arrêts.
Le CMR disputait son dernier match de 2021 samedi. Les étudiants athlètes profiteront maintenant la pause hivernale. Le premier match des Paladins en 2022 sera à Kingston alors qu'ils rendront visite aux Gaels de Queen's, de l'autre côté de la ville, le 7 janvier à 19h30.
