The RMC men's soccer team took on their crosstown rivals the Queen's Gaels on Wednesday night (Oct. 12). Despite a strong second half from the Paladins, the team would come up short, falling to the Gaels by a score of 2-0.
Pablo Hempelmann-Perez got the scoring started for the Gaels in the 29th minute. Their second goal would come from Noah Campagna just before half as he put the ball past Colin Burns on a penalty kick for the 2-0 advantage.
In the second half, Queen's had numerous opportunities but the defence held strong, preventing a third Queen's goal. Senior forward Henry Gagnon had an opportunity in the second half on a breakaway, but Queen's goalkeeper Manuel Dirube came out and stopped the scoring opportunity.
With the intense rivalry, both teams found themselves booked for some yellow cards with Queen's amassing two and RMC getting four of their own.
RMC goalkeeper Colin Burns made some big stops in the second half to prevent the lead from getting larger and finished with nine saves on the net.
The Paladins have two games left on the season and play their last road game on Sunday, October 16 as they take on the No. 7 ranked Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa. Kick-off is set for 3:15 p.m.
