The RMC Paladins saw the Toronto Varsity Blues leapfrog them in the standings in the first game back from the pandemic induced pause to the OUA regular season. Both teams entered with three wins from the first half of the season, but Toronto left Kingston with the additional win after defeating RMC 3-0: 25-21, 25-21, 25-21.
The Paladins never quit against their high quality opponents on Friday, staying within a handful of points throughout the first and second set.
RMC was ahead early in the third set, but the Varsity Blues were able to claw their way back to only a one-point deficit at the technical timeout.
With the Paladins up 18-16, Josh Wilkinson had to exit the game. From that point on, Toronto chipped away at RMC's lead before bursting ahead in the last few rallies.
Wilkinson ended the day with six points, while teammate
Michael Rowsell led the Paladins with 14 on 10 kills, two aces, and two solo blocks.
Jonathan Barton recorded 17 assists as well as eight digs.
The Paladins will play again on Sunday when they travel to Peterborough for a matchup against Trent.
