The RMC Paladins were unable to exact their revenge on the road Saturday in a rematch against the Nipissing Lakers, despite a late surge. The final score was 7-3 in favour of the team from North Bay in the fifth meeting between the two teams this season.
The Lakers enjoyed more zone time early in the physical affair, and ended the first period outshooting the visitors 18-9.
Brad Van Schubert was therefore called upon often in the RMC goal.
After Nipissing made it 3-0 just before the first period expired,
Joey May replaced Van Schubert in the RMC goal when Gael Lubwele became the fourth Laker to score early in the second period.
A pair of early Nipissing goals in the third period, including Lubwele's second of the game, ignited the Paladins offence.
Christopher Paquette scored on the power play to finally get RMC on the board, followed by
Ethan Coltart finding the back of the net.
Refusing to quit, even after Nipissing added a seventh goal,
Noah Rowe notched RMC's second power play goal of the game in the dying minutes.
Van Schubert made 19 saves, while May made 20.
RMC will not have much time off before their next game, as Queen's will visit Constantine Arena for a Wednesday night matchup. Fans will be able to stream the game on OUA.tv.
The Paladins will have one final chance to pick up a win against Nipissing at the end of the regular season when the Lakers visit Kingston on March 10.
