The RMC Paladins couldn't steal a set away from the nationally ranked Nipissing Lakers on Sunday afternoon, falling in consecutive sets to the visitors from North Bay: 25-20, 25-22, 25-27.
Michael Rowsell got things started for the Paladins early in the first set with a big kill from the back row.
After that point, Nipissing opened up an 8-4 lead, and maintained a comfortable margin throughout the rest of the set, despite some unorthodox defence from RMC.
The second set was close all the way, with RMC's biggest lead coming at the 3-1 mark. The teams were tied at almost every point from then on, until they neared 20 points, where the Lakers managed to create a cushion and claim a 2-0 lead in the match.
The third set started much the same as the second, but with Nipissing ahead 16-15 at the technical timeout instead of the other way around. After RMC's
Niko Roumanis and
Jason Nadeau teamed up to block a Nipissing attack and swing the momentum in the Paladins favour, Rowsell pummelled a perfect set to give RMC a 25-24 lead.
The Lakers won three straight points to close out the match with a 27-25 win in the third.
Rowsell led all Paladins with 12 points on nine kills, two solo blocks, and two assisted blocks, while
Jonathan Barton recorded 15 assists.
RMC will be back in action on Friday night at Queen's.
Les Paladins du CMR n'ont pas été en mesure d'arracher une manche aux Lakers de Nipissing, classés neuvièmes au pays, s'inclinant en trois manches consécutives (25-20, 25-22 et 27-25) aux dépens des visiteurs de North Bay, dimanche après-midi.
Michael Rowsell a donné le ton pour les Paladins en première manche en réalisant une attaque marquante depuis la ligne arrière.
À partir de ce moment, Nipissing a pris les devant 8 à 4 et a maintenu une avance confortable pour le reste de la manche malgré un jeu défensif peu orthodoxe de la défensive du CMR.
La deuxième manche a été serrée d'un bout à l'autre alors que le CMR a profité de son meilleur avantage quand il menait 3-1. Les deux équipes se sont maintenues à égalité jusqu'à la barre des 20 points où les Lakers se sont échappés pour prendre les devants 2-0.
La troisième manche s'est déroulée un peu comme la deuxième, mais avec Nipissing devant 16 à 15 au temps d'arrêt technique alors que c'était l'inverse en première. Après que
Niko Roumanis et
Jason Nadeau du CMR aient fait équipe pour contrer une attaque de Nipissing pour redonner l'avantage aux Paladins, Rowsell a fait mouche sur une passe parfait pour procurer les devants 25-24 au CMR.
Les Lakers ont toutefois remporté les trois manches suivantes pour l'emporter 27-25 pour conclure le balayage.
Rowsell a mené les Paladins avec 12 points sur neuf attaques marquantes, deux contres en solo et deux contre assistés, tandis que
Jonathan Barton a amassé 15 passes décisives.
Le CMR sera de retour au jeu vendredi à Queen's.
