The RMC Paladins took a set off the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday afternoon in Kingston, falling 3-1 to the visitors from North Bay: 25-18, 15-25, 25-17, 25-18.
RMC took an early lead in the first set, forcing Nipissing to call a timeout down 9-5. The Lakers responded well after being calmed down by their coach, rallying to take a 13-12 lead, when the Paladins a called a timeout of their own. Nipissing ploughed ahead to lead 16-11 at the technical timeout and stretched their advantage to 25-18 to win.
Like the first set, RMC opened up a 9-5 lead in the second, where Nipissing called another timeout in the hopes of replicating their previous result. Initially, it seemed to be paying off, before the Paladins responded with a timeout at 9-8, and cruised from there to a 16-11 lead at the technical timeout. To close out the set with the largest spread of the match (25-15),
Taryn Bender met her Nipissing counterpart at the net with a massive block.
Nipissing came out strong in the third set, doubling up the Paladins early with an 8-4 lead. The Lakers continued to have twice as many points at the technical timeout before maintaining their eight-point lead until the end of the set.
Emma Titley showcased some of her impressive play early in the fourth set with a big kill out of the middle.
Despite trailing throughout the final set, RMC continued to fight until the last point.
Titley finished with 13 points on 12 kills and one ace. Bender contributed 12 points of her own, while Titley,
Emilie Boileau, and
Maya Marshall all recorded more than 10 digs. Emilie L'Abbé put up 30 assists.
The Paladins will be back in action on Friday night at Queen's at 6PM.
Les Paladins du CMR ont remporté une manche contre les Lakers de Nipissing dimanche après-midi à Kingston, mais s'est quand même inclinée 3-1 (25-18, 15-25, 25-17 et 25-18) aux mains des visiteuses de North Bay.
Le CMR a pris les devants tôt en première manche, forçant Nipissing à prendre un temps d'arrêt alors que les Paladins menaient 9 à 5. Les Lakers ont bien répondu à la suite de cette pause, inscrivant huit des 11 points qui ont suivi pour prendre les devants 13 à 12. C'est alors que les Paladins ont à leur tour pris un temps d'arrêt. Nipissing a toutefois créusé l'écart à 16-11 au temps d'arrêt technique pour finalement l'emporter 25 à 18.
Comme ce fut le cas en première manche, le CMR a pris les devants 9 à 5 en deuxième, poussant à nouveau l'entraîneur de Nipissing à prendre un temps d'arrêt, espérant recréer les conditions gagnantes de la manche initiale. Les Lakers ont bien réagi à la reprise du jeu, mais les Paladins ont rapidement répliqué avec leur propre temps d'arrêt alors que leur avance avait été réduite à 9-8. Les hôtes ont filé vers une priorité de 16-11 au temps d'arrêt technique.
Taryn Bender a mis le point d'exclamation sur cette manche qui a été la plus décisive de la rencontre (25-15) en réalisant un superbe contre au filet.
Les visiteuses ont démarré la troisième manche avec aplomb, doublant les Paladins au pointage (8-4). Les Lakers ont maintenu cette cadence jusqu'au temps d'arrêt technique (16-8) avant de voguer vers la victoire en maintenant cette avance de huit points (25-17).
Emma Titley a brillé en début de quatrième manche avec une belle attaque marquante en plein centre.
Même si le CMR a tiré de l'arrière tout au long de la quatrième manche, l'équipe n'a jamais cessé de se battre pour revenir au pointage.
Titley a conclu la rencontre avec 13 points sur 12 attaques marquantes et un as au service. Bender a ajouté 12 points, tandis que Titley,
Emilie Boileau, et
Maya Marshall ont enregistré plus de 10 récupérations chacun. Emilie L'Abbé a réalisé 30 passes décisives.
Les Paladins seront de retour au jeu vendredi soir à Queen's à compter de 18 h.
