The RMC Paladins visited the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in Oshawa on Tuesday – day 22 of month number 2 in the year 2022. Puck drop took place at 2:00 PM, before the Ridgebacks managed to earn a 4-3 overtime victory.
The Paladins were charged with two penalties in the opening period of a physical game, which contributed to Ontario Tech outshooting RMC 12-4 in the first.
After the Ridgebacks managed to gain the lead just before the first intermission with a power play goal, the Paladins responded early in the second with
Alex MacDonald's first goal of the season to tie the game on a great pass from
Joel Holtrop.
Wearing #22 for RMC, Holtrop scored his first OUA goal and earned his second point of the game less than two minutes later to put the visitors ahead 2-1.
Ontario Tech tied the game 2-2 on their second power play goal of the game when RMC took a double minor for kneeing. Before the second period came to a close, the Ridgebacks regained the lead on Jack Patterson's second of the game – his team's second of the period.
Midway through the third, RMC killed a penalty before springing
Ryan Smith on a breakaway, where he was hauled down from behind, giving the Paladins a chance to tie the game on a penalty shot. MacDonald stepped up and scored a highlight-reel goal for his second of the game.
The two teams played the final minutes without a goal to force overtime.
Brad Van Schubert was the busier of the two goaltenders, finishing the afternoon affair with 37 saves.
Van Schubert made four saves in the overtime period before the Ridgebacks managed to end the game with a give-and-go play in front of the net.
RMC earned a single point in the overtime loss, which could be important at the end of the year when playoff positions are on the line.
The Paladins will be back in action this weekend for a pair of games against the Queen's Gaels: Friday at 7:00 PM at RMC and Saturday at 7:30 PM at Queen's.

Les Paladins ont écopé de deux pénalités durant la première période d'un match empreint de robustesse, ce qui a notamment permis à Ontario Tech de dominer le CMR 12-4 au chapitre des tirs au premier engagement.
Après que les Ridgebacks eurent réussi à prendre les devants juste avant la première pause à l'aide d'un but en avantage numérique, les Paladins ont répliqué tôt en deuxième quand
Alex MacDonald a inscrit son premier but de la saison pour créer l'égalité à l'aide d'une passe parfaite de
Joel Holtrop.
Arborant le no 22 pour le CMR, Holtrop a marqué son premier but dans le SUO et récolté son deuxième point de la rencontre moins de deux minutes plus tard pour procurer une avance de 2-1 aux visiteurs.
Ontario Tech a égalé le score à 2-2 au moyen d'un deuxième filet en supériorité numérique, après que le CMR eut écopé d'une double pénalité mineure pour un coup de genou. Avant la fin de la deuxième période, les Ridgebacks ont repris les devants sur le deuxième filet du match de Jack Patterson, le deuxième de la période pour son équipe.
En milieu de troisième, le CMR a écoulé une pénalité avant de voir
Ryan Smith filer en échappée. Ce dernier a été accroché par derrière, ce qui a donné aux Paladins l'occasion de créer l'égalité à l'aide d'un tir de punition. MacDonald s'est amené et il a marqué un but digne des faits saillants de la semaine pour enregistrer son deuxième de l'affrontement.
Aucun but n'a été marqué dans les dernières minutes de jeu, si bien qu'il a fallu aller en prolongation.
Brad Van Schubert a été le plus occupé des deux gardiens, complétant son après-midi de travail avec 37 arrêts à son actif.
Van Schubert a réalisé quatre arrêts en prolongation avant que les Ridgebacks réussissent à mettre fin au match à l'aide d'un double échange à deux devant le filet.
Le CMR a pu récolter un point au classement en raison de cette défaite en prolongation, ce qui pourrait s'avérer important en fin de saison, au moment de déterminer l'identité des équipes qui accéderont aux séries éliminatoires.
Les Paladins disputeront leurs prochains matchs en fin de semaine, quand ils affronteront les Gaels de Queen's ce vendredi à 19h au CMR, puis samedi à 19h30 à Queen's.
