The RMC Paladins visited the top team in the OUA East division on Saturday night, falling 4-0 to the nationally ranked Queen's Gaels in Kingston.
In the first,
Ryan Smith visited the penalty box twice, providing two power play opportunities to the Gaels. With the top power play unit in the league, Queen's took a 1-0 lead into first intermission thanks to a goal on the man-advantage with six minutes to play in the period. On their second power play,
Dean Kiriacou put his body on the line to block a hard Gaels point shot.
Brad Van Schubert was back in goal for RMC, making 17 of his 42 saves in the opening frame.
The score remained 1-0 for the bulk of the second period, with
Benjamin Pruneau nearly tying the game on a break down the right wing, but Luke Richardson made the stop for the Gaels. Late in the period, Queen's netted a pair of goals, including Holden Katzalay's second power play goal of the night, to go ahead 3-0 heading into the third.
The Paladins earned their first power play early in the final period, but the Gaels managed to score short-handed for their last tally of the game. RMC continued to fight throughout the final 20 minutes, including some physical play, but were unable to beat Richardson in the Queen's goal.
Looking ahead to Thursday night, the Memorial Centre will once again play host to the Paladins and Gaels, as the two teams square off at 7:30 PM in their third consecutive meeting.

Le CMR a continue de lutter dans les 20 dernières minutes de jeu, offrant notamment du jeu robuste, mais a été incapable de déjouer Richardson.
Jeudi soir, le Centre Memorial accueillera à nouveau ces deux équipes à compter de 19 h 30 dans le troisième de leurs quatre duels consécutifs.
