The women's volleyball team got their home stand started with a Friday (Jan. 26) night clash with the TMU Bold. The Bold took the match in straight sets (21-25, 21-25, 18-25)
In the first set, RMC went point for point at the start and continued pushing the TMU side. A highlight of the first is setter Emilie L'Abbé making a savy play. After TMU had to scramble to keep things alive, the senior setter dumped it to where the scrambling TMU defender had vacated for the point. The Paladins pushed the Bold in the first but came up short 25-21.
RMC continued to show their defensive prowess, taking part in some big rallies in the second. Back-to-back kills from Ashley Raymond and Emma Titley gave the Paladins an early 6-5 advantage. Raymond also delivered two-straight aces to give the Paladins a two-point advantage at 15-13. TMU was able to come back, eventually forcing an RMC timeout. The Bold took the second by the same score as the first.
TMU took an early lead on the Paladins in the third. RMC tied it up at 11-11 and would take a four-point advantage off of back-to-back kills from Titley and Raymond. This led to a TMU timeout. After the timeout, the Bold were able to go on a run of their own, forcing RMC to do the same. It was not enough on this night as the Bold took the third and final set.
The Paladins were led by Taryn Bender who finished a team-high nine kills and chipped in with 11 digs. Setter Emilie L'Abbé delivered 25 assists, while outsides Titley and Raymond finished with double-digit digs.
RMC is back in action tomorrow afternoon as they host the TMU Bold for a second straight match. First serve is at 1 p.m.
L'équipe féminine de volleyball a démarré sa série de deux matchs à domicile vendredi soir contre le Bold de TMU. Les visiteuses ont remporté la rencontre en trois manches (25-21, 25-21 et 25-18).
En première manche, le CMR a répliqué point pour point dès le début du match avec le Bold et a continué tout au long du match à tenir tête aux visiteuses. Un des faits saillants de la première manche a été réussi par la passeuse Emilie L'Abbé, qui a réussi un jeu superbe. Après que TMU a eu à travailler dur pour garder le ballon en vue, la passeuse finissante a envoyé le ballon directement à la position abandonnée par une joueuse de TMU en défensive sur l'échange. Les Paladins ont ainsi tenu tête au Bold en première manche, mais se sont inclinées 25-21.
Le CMR a continué de faire preuve de qualité défensive, disputant de longs échanges en deuxième. Des attaquantes marquantes consécutives d'Ashley Raymond et d'Emma Titley ont procuré aux Paladins une avance de 6-5 en début de manche. Raymond a aussi inscrit deux as au service de suite pour pousser les Paladins devant par la marque de 15-13. TMU a été en mesure de remonter la pente, forçant éventuellement le CMR à prendre un temps d'arrêt. Le Bold a plus tard remporté la manche par une marque identique à la première.
TMU a d'abord pris les devants en troisième manche, mais les Paladins se sont relevées et ont créé l'égalité 11-11 avant de se procurer une avance de quatre points grâce aux attaques marquantes consécutives de Titley et de Raymond. Cela a conduit à un temps d'arrêt de TMU. Quand le jeu a repris, le Bold a inscrit des points consécutifs, poussant à un temps d'arrêt du CMR. Les Paladins n'ont toutefois pas réussi à renverser la vapeur, s'inclinant en trois manches.
Taryn Bender a mené les hôtes avec neuf attaques marquantes et 11 récupérations. La passeuse Emilie L'Abbé a amassé 25 passes tandis que les attaquantes Titley et Raymond ont chacune passé le cap des 10 récupérations.
Le CMR sera de retour au jeu samedi après-midi contre cette même équipe du Bold avec un premier service sur le coup de 13 h.
