Playing their second game in as many days in Ottawa, the RMC Paladins wrapped up a weekend road trip Saturday afternoon. Visiting the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, the Paladins comeback attempt was not quite enough, as RMC dropped a 3-2 decision to Ottawa.
After recovering from a 2-0 deficit to defeat the Carleton Ravens last night, the Paladins instead jumped out in front first on Saturday scoring the first goal of the contest. Fighting for a loose puck in the slot, third-year forward
Brent Broaders eventually corralled the puck and fired it home, giving RMC a 1-0 lead.
Still holding that advantage into the second frame, the Paladins did their best to withstand an early puck from the home team. Despite their efforts, RMC saw the Gee-Gees tie the game up just over a minute into the second, before Ottawa then took their first lead of the contest midway through the frame.
As the third period got underway, the Gee-Gees went to work on the power-play and took advantage, extending their lead to 3-1. Determined to rewrite the script of a two-goal deficit for the second straight night, the Paladins pulled themselves back within one when
Austin Saint crashed in on goal, leaving a rebound for
Devin Pimm to score his first goal of the season with just under five minutes to go in the game. In the final seconds, the Paladins had a couple of chances to equalize, but were not successful, before the Gee-Gees were able to find the empty net and put the game away.
Getting the start in goal, the
Michael Davis turned aside 26 shots in the loss.
Having split their two weekend games, the Paladins will now prepare midweek contest at Queen's against the Gaels. Puck drop is set for 1930.
