Coming off an impressive 3-1 win in Thunder Bay, Ont., last weekend, the RMC Paladins were back in action Saturday night looking for a second consecutive victory. Heading across the Causeway, the Paladins paid a visit to the Queen's Gaels, where they came up a little short of that goal, dropping a 4-2 decision to Queen's.
Playing their cross-town neighbour for the final time before the annual Carr-Harris Cup on February 8, the Paladins were able to generate good pressure throughout the opening frame. Although they created a few good chances, the Paladins were unable to breakthrough in the opening twenty minutes, as the game remained scoreless after one period of play.
As the second period got underway, it did not take either side very long to score their first goal. First, it was the Gaels finding the back of the net, just under a minute and a half into the frame. Quick to respond though,
Austin Saint came back the other way for RMC and scored his 14
th goals of the season just 26 seconds later. With the game still tied 1-1, the Gaels would re-take the near the midway point of the period with a short-handed goal. Queen's would go on to add one more before the period ending, taking a 3-1 lead into the intermission.
Early in the third, the Gaels would add to their advantage with a goal just over two minutes in. As the final period continued to roll, the game came to a halt with a little over 13-minutes to go, as there was a malfunction with the RMC bench door, leading to a delay of nearly an hour. Having a chance to regroup during the break, RMC came out afterwards and quickly cut into the Queen's lead. On the power play,
Brent Broaders tipped home his fourth goal of the season to pull the Paladins within two. However, that was as close as RMC would get as the final horn sounded on a 4-2 Queen's win.
Getting the start in goal for RMC,
Michael Davis made 34 saves on 38 shots.
The Paladins will now turn their attention to the Concordia Stingers. RMC will travel to Montreal, Que., on January 18 for their second meeting of the season with Concordia. Puck drop is set for 1900 hrs.

Traversant de l'autre côté de Kingston, les Paladins ont rendu visite aux Gaels de Queen's contre qui ils ont subi un revers de 4 à 2.
Face à leurs plus proches rivaux pour la dernière fois avant la tenue du match annuel de la Coupe Carr-Harris le 8 février, les Paladins ont été en mesure d'appliquer beaucoup de pression tout au long du premier vingt. Bien qu'ils aient créé de belles occasions de marquer, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de s'inscrire à la marque avant la première intermission si bien que les équipes sont rentrées au vestiaire sur un pointage vierge.
Les deux équipes n'ont toutefois pas perdu de temps pour ouvrir la marque au deuxième engagement. Les Gaels ont d'abord pris les devants après 90 secondes de jeu. Les visiteurs ont répliqué 26 secondes plus tard quand
Austin Saint a inscrit son 14e but de la saison pour créer l'égalité 1-1. Les hôtes se sont redonné les devants à mi-chemin dans la rencontre dans une situation à court d'un homme et ils ont ajouté un troisième but avant la fin de la période médiane.
Au début de la troisième, les Gaels ont creusé l'écart en marquant après seulement deux minutes du retour au jeu. Le match a ensuite été interrompu avec un peu plus de 13 minutes à écouler en raison d'un problème mécanique à la porte au banc des Paladins, provoquant une pause de plus d'une heure. Profitant de l'occasion de se regrouper pendant ce contretemps, le CMR a réduit l'écart à deux buts. Sur le jeu de puissance,
Brent Broaders a fait dévier la rondelle dans le filet adverse pour son quatrième but de la saison. C'est toutefois là que la remontée s'est arrêtée. Les Paladins s'inclinant 4 à 2.
Michael Davis a réalisé 34 arrêts sur 38 tirs devant la cage du CMR.
Les Paladins prendront la direction de Montréal au Québec pour leur prochain match, le 18 janvier pour leur deuxième duel de la saison contre les Stingers de Concordia. La rondelle sera mise en jeu à 19 h.
