On the heels of a heartbreaking five set loss to the Trent Excalibur last weekend, the RMC Paladins were looking to rebound Friday night in Toronto. Paying a visit to the Toronto Varsity Blues, the Paladins had a tough night at the office, falling 3-0 (12-25, 7-25, 8-25) to the talented Blues at the Goldring Centre.
Up to the task early on, the Paladins went back and forth with Toronto out of the gate, taking a quick 3-2 lead. However, a 10-point run would give Toronto a 12-3 advantage. From there, the two teams once again started going point-for-point, but RMC was never able to catch up, dropping the opening set 25-12.
In a similar fashion, the Blues were once again able to use a big run to help create separation in the second set. Leading 5-3, Toronto was able to go on another 10-point run. Although continuing to fight, the deficit proved too much for the Paladins, falling 25-7.
Runs were the story again in the third set. Toronto was able to securing eight consecutive points, before winning six points in a row. With that, the Blues would go on to win the final set 25-8.
After a big performance last weekend,
Elisa Markentin once again led the Paladins in kills on Friday with four. Markentin also led the team in digs with seven, while
Cassidy Chang had a team-high six assists.
The Paladins will now look to bounce back tomorrow. RMC will take on the Varsity Blues for the second time in as many days with first serve set for 1600 hrs.
Dans la foulée d'une défaite crève-cœur aux mains de l'Excalibur de Trent le weekend dernier, les Paladins du CMR cherchaient à rebondir à Toronto en rendant visite aux Varsity Blues. Les joueuses des Paladins ont toutefois connu une sortie difficile en s'inclinant en trois manches (12-25, 7-25 et 8-25) aux mains de leurs hôtes au Centre Goldring.
Rien ne laissait présager cette tournée d'événements sur les premiers échanges de la rencontre puisque les Paladins ont rapidement pris les devants 3-2. Cependant, une séquence de 10 points a renversé la vapeur 12-3 en faveur des Torontoises. De là, les équipes se sont échangé les points coup sur coup, mais le CMR n'a jamais été en mesure de combler l'écart et s'est incliné 25-12.
Dans la même lignée, les Blues ont profité d'une grosse séquence en deuxième manche. Menant 5-3, Toronto a inscrit 10 points consécutifs pour mettre la manche hors de portée des visiteuses, malgré leurs efforts, s'inclinant 25-7.
Les séquences de points consécutifs ont une fois de plus fait mal aux visiteuses en troisième manche, notamment des séries de huit et de six points, en route vers un gain de 25-8.
Après une grosse performance le weekend dernier,
Elisa Markentin a une fois de plus mené les Paladins avec quatre attaques marquantes et sept récupérations tandis que
Cassidy Chang a été la meilleure des siennes avec six passes.
Les Paladins chercheront à rebondir demain en disputant un deuxième match en deux jours contre les Varsity Blues, cette fois à compter de 16 h.
