Following a 35-day exam and holiday break, the RMC Paladins returned to the volleyball court Saturday night in St. Catharines, Ont. Taking on the No. 3-nationally ranked Brock Badgers, the Paladins dropped a three set decision to the home team, falling 15-25, 10-25, 12-25.
Looking to get back into the rhythm and flow of an OUA match, the Paladins were not allotted any time do so as the Badgers jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, before extending their advantage to 9-3. From there, the Badgers continued to further build their lead, not allowing the Paladins to get within seven points the rest of the way before finishing off the set 25-15.
The second set once again saw Brock come out flying. Using their strong attack, the Badgers took a 10-1 lead. Doing their best to try and get back in the set, the Paladins were able to go point-for-point with the home side for a stretch, however, given the early deficit, they were unable to make up any ground, falling 10-25.
With the hopes of extending the match to a fourth set, the Paladins did their best not to allow Brock another quick start. However, after keeping the Badgers close through the first few points, trailing 4-3, the Badgers began to take over from there. Going on an 11-1 run, Brock was able to cruise to a third set and match win, downing RMC 25-12.
Leading the way for the Paladins on Saturday night was
Emma Titley. Her four kills were a team-high. With eight assists,
Jayda Phillipson led RMC, while
Emilie Boileau recorded a team-high six digs.
After some rest tonight, RMC will quickly return to the court to once again battle the Badgers. The Paladins and Brock will square off at 1400 Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines.

d'un match des SUO, les Paladins ont été
bousculées par les Badgers qui ont démarré le match avec des avances de 4-0 et de 9-3. Les
receveuses ont
même accru cette avance, ne
permettant pas aux Paladins de s'approcher à plus de
sept points en route
vers un gain de 25-15.
La
deuxième manche a une
fois de plus été
dominée par Brock,
profitant d'une attaque efficace pour
s'envoler et prendre les devants 10-1.
Déployant leurs meilleurs efforts pour
revenir dans ce match, les Paladins ont
répondu point pour point au
cours d'une séquence,
mais l'écart étant trop important,
elles se
sont inclinées 25-10.
Dans l'espoir de
prolonger la
rencontre d'une manche, les Paladins ont tout
fait pour
empêcher Brock de dicter
l'allure de la
troisième manche.
Après avoir
limité l'écart à 4-3, les Paladins ont vu
leurs hôtes prendre la
fuite en
marquant 11 des 12 points
suivants en route
vers un
balayage grâce à un gain de 25-12.
Emma Titley a
mené la charge pour les Paladins dans ce match avec quatre
attaques marquantes. Sa
coéquipière Jayda Phillipson a
amassé huit passes
tandis qu'Emilie Boileau a
accumulé six
récupérations pour le CMR.
Les deux
mêmes équipes se
retrouveront dimanche après-midi dans le
deuxième et
dernier match de
leur série à St.
Catharines avec un premier service à
compter de 14 h.
