Getting their season underway in front of their home crowd at the SAM Gym Friday afternoon, the RMC Paladins made their 2024-25 debut against the Brock Badgers. Despite plenty of strong play throughout the match, it was not enough in the end to get by Brock, as RMC fell 3-0 (20-25, 16-25, 17-25).
In the opening set, RMC went back and forth with Brock in the beginning. Approaching the midway point of the set though, the visitors began to pull away slightly, forcing a RMC timeout at 14-10. Although trying to get back into the set, the Paladins were unable to come up with answers for the Brock attack and instead, saw the Badgers extend their lead. Down 24-16, the Paladins tried to push back but ultimately dropped the set 25-20.
The second set had a similar feel to the first one, with both teams trading points in the early stages. Again though, it would be Brock forcing a couple of RMC timeouts, one at 10-7, and the other at 15-8. Despite the timeouts, Brock would continue to roll and win the second set 25-16.
Once again in the third set, very little separated the two teams in the beginning. As both sides approached double-digits on the scoreboard, neither team was able to create a lead more than two. It would be the Badgers though that would finally create a surge through the midway portion of the set. Opening their lead to 17-13, Brock continued to push, getting their advantage to 22-16, before finishing off the set, and the match, 25-17.
Carter Liu finished the match with a team-high four kills for RMC. Team captain
Andrew Gallant led the way in assists with 20, while he and
David Feher each recorded three digs.
The Paladins will resume their season October 26 when they once again host the Brock Badgers. First serve is set for 1600hrs.

Dans la manche initiale, le CMR a répondu point sur point aux Badgers. À mi-chemin dans la manche toutefois, les visiteurs se sont échappés avec une avance de 14-10, forçant les Paladins à prendre un temps d'arrêt. Tentant de remonter la pente, les Paladins n'ont pas su solutionner l'attaque des Badgers, qui ont accru leur avance. En retard 24-16, les Paladins ont inscrit quatre points consécutifs avant de s'incliner 25-20.
La deuxième manche a donné lieu à un scénario semblable alors que les deux équipes se sont échangé les points en début d'engagement. C'est Brock qui a toutefois forcé les temps d'arrêt du CMR avec une avance de 10-7, puis de 15-8. Malgré cela, les visiteurs ont poursuivi sur leur lancée en route vers un gain de 25-16.
Les deux équipes étaient nez à nez à nouveau en début de troisième manche. Après une vingtaine d'échange, ni l'une ni l'autre des équipes n'a pu se donner un avantage de plus de deux points. Les Badgers sont ensuite parvenus à réaliser une grosse poussée à mi-chemin dans la manche, se créant une avance de 17-13. Poursuivant sur cette lancée, Brock menait 22-16 avant de remporter trois des quatre échanges suivants dans un gain de 25-17.
Carter Liu a été le meilleur des siens avec quatre attaques marquantes. Le capitaine
Andrew Gallant a mené son équipe avec 20 passes tandis qu'il a pris le premier rang à égalité avec
David Feher chez les Paladins avec trois récupérations chacun.
Les Paladins ont à nouveau rendez-vous le samedi 26 octobre à 16 h au SAM Gym, contre ces mêmes Badgers de Brock.
