Coming off a weekend in Waterloo, the RMC Paladins were back in the friendly confines of the SAM Gym Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Trent Excalibur. Taking full advantage of the home crowd behind them, the Paladins were able to propel themselves to their first win of the season, defeating the Trent Excalibur 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-19).
The opening set saw plenty of back and forth from the two sides. All through the set, neither side was able to pull away from the either. With no lead getting much larger than two or three points, both teams would eventually be forced into using both of their timeouts during the set. Tied 22-22 late, it was the visitors who were able to pull away with three of the next four points to win the set 25-23.
Proving to be a very even match, the second set played out very similar to the first. Again, trying to create separation was a tall task for either team. As the set approached its conclusion, Trent was able to go up 24-21, and appearing ready to take a two-set lead. However, three consecutive RMC points, thanks in large part to strong serving from
Ashley Raymond, all of sudden got the Paladins back in the set. Making the most of their newfound opportunity, RMC would then go on to win the set 27-25.
Tied at one set apiece, RMC went to work in the third looking to gain a leg up on the Excalibur. In the third, it was the first time where the Paladins were able to hold a lead throughout most of the set. Keeping ahead of Trent by three or four points, RMC seemed on their way to taking the lead. Having to survive a late Trent push though, the Paladins held off the Excalibur, before going on to clinch the set 25-19.
Within a set of their first win of the season, the Paladins put their heads down and got to work. Forcing the issue, RMC was able to use a balanced attack to keep the pressure on Trent throughout the set. Much like the third set, the Paladins were able to maintain a small advantage throughout majority of the set. Not allowing Trent any thoughts of forcing a fifth set, the Paladins were able to pull away late, winning the set 25-19.
Having just the one game on their schedule this weekend, the Paladins will now have a few days off before jumping on the bus for Guelph. Going for a second consecutive victory, RMC will take on the Gryphons on November 22 at 1800hrs.

Dans ce match très partagé, la deuxième manche a été disputée à l'image de la première alors qu'aucune des deux équipes n'a su s'échapper au pointage. Trent a pris les devants 24-21 en fin de manche et n'était qu'à un point de doubler son avance 2-0. Cependant, les Paladins ont marqué des points sur les trois échanges qui ont suivi pour créer l'égalit grâce aux excellents services d'
Ashley Raymond. Avec le vent dans ses voiles, le CMR a remporté trois des quatre points suivants pour gagner 27-25.
À égalité une manche à une, le CMR s'est mis au travail pour tenter de renverser la vapeur en torisième manche. Les hôtes ont su maintenir l'avance pendant la majeure partie de la manche. Menant Trent par trois ou quatre points, le CMR était en voie de prendre les devants dans la rencontre. Après avoir résisté à une poussée de Trent en fin de manche, les Paladins l'ont emporté 25-19.
À une manche d'une première victoire cette saison, les Paladins ont baissé la tête et ont repris le boulot. Forçant le jeu, le CMR a profité d'une attaque équilibrée pour maintenir la pression sur Trent pendant toute la manche. Comme en troisième, les Paladins ont gardé le cap avec une mince avance tout au long de la quatrième manche. Fermant la porte à la tenue d'une cinquième manche, les Paladins se sont échappés en fin de match pour gagner 25-19.
Raymond a été la meilleure des siennes avec sept attaques marquantes et 14 récupérations, tandis que
Jayda Phillipson a accumulé 26 passes dans la cause victorieuse.
Avec un seul match au programme ce weekend, les joueuses des Paladins profiteront de quelques journées de congé avant de sauter dans un autobus direction Guelph. En quête d'une deuxième victoire de suite, le CMR affrontera les Gryphons le vendredi 22 novembre à 18 h.
