Hitting the road for the first time in their 2024-25 regular season schedule, the RMC Paladins made their way to Waterloo. Playing the first of two matches in two days against the Warriors Friday night, the Paladins were unable to keep up with the homeside, falling 3-0 (9-25, 13-25, 8-25).
Playing most of the match with just seven athletes, the Paladins did their best to pressure the Warriors, but had a tough time. Waterloo came out fast to start the match, scoring the first six points. From there, they continued to put runs together, keeping momentum in their favour as they went on to win the set 25-9.
Looking to respond in the second, RMC was able to keep Waterloo much closer to start the set, with the two teams trading points. After hitting a 6-6 tie though, the Warriors began to break through. Helped by a 5-0 run, Waterloo went up 11-6. Then leading 17-13, the Warriors kept RMC from winning another rally, taking the set 25-13.
In the third, Waterloo got back to jumping out early. Taking 10 of the first 12 points, the Warriors took control with a 10-2 lead. After building up the eight-point advantage, Waterloo would not look back, winning the set, and the match, 25-8.
Elisa Markentin had the team high in kills with five.
Lilie Demelo led the Paladins with nine assists, while
Mackenzie Lockett-Hiemstra finish with a team-high 10 digs.
The Paladins will look to quickly turn the page on Friday's defeat as they return to the court in Waterloo on 9 November at 1400hrs to, once again, take on the Warriors.
Disputant un premier match en déplacement dans le cadre de leur saison régulière 2024-2025, les Paladins du CMR étaient à Waterloo vendredi soir pour le premier de deux matchs contre les Warriors. Les visiteuses n'ont toutefois pas su suivre le rythme de leurs hôtes, s'inclinant en trois manches (9-25, 13-25 et 8-25).
Jouant la majeure partie du match avec seulement sept athlètes, les Paladins ont fait de leur mieux pour mettre de la pression sur les Warriors, mais avec beaucoup de difficulté. Waterloo a démarré le match en trombe, marquant les six premiers points. Elles ont ainsi continué d'accumuler les points, maintenant un rythme en leur faveur en route vers un gain de 25-9.
Cherchant à répondre en deuxième manche, le CMR a été en mesure de rester plus près de Waterloo au pointage en début d'engagement. C'est avec une égalité de 6-6 que Waterloo s'est échappé, marquant les cinq points suivants, puis six des 13 points suivants pour prendre les devants 17-13. Les Warriors ont ensuite fermé les écoutilles pour l'emporter 25-13.
En troisième manche, Waterloo a pris les devants rapidement, remportant 10 des 12 premiers échanges. Profitant de ce coussin de huit points, les Warriors n'ont plus regardé derrière, remportant 15 des 21 échanges conduisant à la fin du match, qui s'est soldé par une marque de 25-8.
Elisa Markentin a été la meilleure de siennes avec cinq attaques marquantes.
Lilie Demelo a mené les Paladins avec neuf passes, puis
Mackenzie Lockett-Hiemstra a conclu la rencontre avec 10 récupérations.
Les Paladins chercheront à tourner rapidement la page sur cette défaite en retrouvant ces mêmes Warriors samedi à Waterloo à compter de 14 h.
