Returning home to Kingston after a weekend in Toronto, the RMC Paladins were back on the court Friday night. Playing host to the York Lions at the SAM Gym, the Paladins had a tough time getting rolling, dropping a three-set match to York 3-0 (10-25, 13-25, 17-25).
Although back in their home building, the Paladins struggled to build momentum in the early going, as York pulled out in front 6-1. The Lions would continue to attack and further build their lead, going up 18-7, before taking the opening set from RMC 25-10.
The second set would play out in a similar fashion as the first. With York quickly establishing an advantage in the middle set, the Paladins called for time trailing 15-4. Not letting up, the Lions were able to extend their advantage to 23-11, before finishing off the set 25-13.
Stuck by two sets, the Paladins would find themselves in trouble in the third, but continued to battle. York quickly established an 11-6 advantage, and later a 17-8 lead. However, despite the deficit, RMC did their best to fight back. Trailing 23-13, the Paladins were able to put together a small run late in the match, pulling within 24-17. However, that would be as close as RMC was able to get, after losing the ensuing point.
On the stat sheet, Maciej Tereszcko finished the match with a team-high eight kills.
Andrew Gallant once again led the team in assists with 11, while
Zachary Tessier,
David Feher and
Carlos Rojas-Medina all finished the match with three digs each.
The Paladins will now turn their focus to Senior's Day, which will take place on February 3. In what will be the team's final home game of the season, the Paladins will take on the York Lions again, while celebrating the accomplishments of their two graduating seniors in Tessier and
David Hurley. Game time is scheduled for 1400 hrs.
De retour à Kingston après un weekend à Toronto, les Paladins du CMR étaient en action au SAM Gym vendredi à l'occasion de la visite des Lions de York. Tard à sortir des blocs de départ, les joueurs des Paladins ont baissé pavillon en trois manches (10-25, 13-25 et 17-25).
Même s'ils jouaient à la maison, les Paladins ne semblaient pas à l'aise sur le terrain en première manche alors que York s'est donné une priorité de 6-1. Les Lions ont maintenu la pression pour accroître leur avance à 18-7 pour ensuite l'emporter 25-10.
La deuxième manche a un peu ressemblé à la première alors que York s'est rapidement enfui au pointage, poussant les Paladins à prendre un temps d'arrêt, tirant alors de l'arrière 15 à 4. Sans jamais ralentir, les visiteurs ont poussé leur avance à 23-11 pour finalement gagner 25-13.
En retard par deux manches à zéro, les Paladins accusaient aussi un retard aux points en troisième manche, notamment 11-6 et 17-8, mais sans jamais baisser les bras, les hôtes ont inscrit quatre points sur une séquence de cinq échanges en fin de manche pour réduire l'écart de 10 points (23-13) à sept points (24-17). Toutefois les Lions ont mis un point final à la rencontre en remportant l'échange suivant.
Sur la feuille de pointage, Maciej Tereszcko a été le meilleur du CMR avec huit attaques marquantes,
Andrew Gallant a une fois de plus dominé les passes (11) tandis que
Zachary Tessier,
David Feher et
Carlos Rojas-Medina ont partagé le premier rang des locaux avec trois récupérations chacun.
Les Paladins tourneront maintenant leur attention vers la Journée des finissants le samedi 3 février. Dans ce qui sera le dernier match à domicile de l'équipe cette saison, les Paladins accueilleront une fois de plus les Lions de York, tout en célébrant les réalisations de leurs deux finissants, Tessier et
David Hurley. Le premier service sera effectué à 14 h.
