The RMC Paladins got their two game weekend road trip underway Friday evening in Montreal. Going up against the No. 6 McGill Redbirds, the Paladins had a tough time getting much going in an 8-1 defeat.
McGill got off to a quick start in Friday's contest, scoring just under two minutes into the game. The Redbirds then went on score three more times in the opening frame to open up a 4-0 lead.
For much of the second period, the scoring slowed down. With just under four minutes to go though, McGill added to their lead with their fifth goal of the contest. On a power-play late in the period, the Paladins were able to respond with their first goal of the contest as
Cole Foston fired home his second goal of the season.
Trying to work their way back into the game, RMC was unable to generate much against the nationally ranked team in the third period. McGill would ultimately go on to score three times to round out the 8-1 final.
First-year goalie,
Ethan Morrow recorded 60 saves in the contest.
Bradley Blake and
Connor Prestwich both recorded an assist on Foston's goal.
The Paladins will resume their season on Saturday when they pay a visit to the UQTR Patriotes.
Les Paladins du CMR ont démarré leur série de deux matchs en déplacement ce weekend par un arrêt à Montréal, vendredi soir. Face aux Redbirds de McGill, équipe classée sixième au pays, les Paladins ont eu de la difficulté à rivaliser dans un match perdu par la marque de 8 à 1.
McGill a démarré ce match en trombe, marquant avant la deuxième minute de jeu. Les Redbirds ont ajouté trois autres buts au premier engagement pour se donner une avance de 4-0.
Pour la majeure partie de la deuxième période, le jeu a ralenti, mais avec quatre minutes à faire, McGill a ajouté un cinquième but. Sur un jeu de puissance en fin de période, les Paladins ont inscrit leur seul but de la rencontre sur le deuxième de la saison de
Cole Foston.
Tentant de réduire l'écart, le CMR n'a pas été en mesure de générer grand chose à l'attaque contre cette équipe parmi les meilleures au pays. McGill a ajouté trois autres buts avant la fin du match pour l'emporter 6-1.
