The first weekend of the season came to a close Saturday afternoon in Peterborough for the RMC Paladins. Returning to the Trent Athletics Centre for a second match in as many days with the Trent Excalibur, the Paladins had a hard time getting on track this time around, falling 3-0 (21-25, 11-25, 15-25).
With these two teams having gone five sets less than 24-hours ago, they once again began their match on Saturday with very little separating them. Although both sides would make small runs early on, they would continue to match each other. Tied 12-12, following three straight points from RMC, Trent would quickly take a 14-12 lead. From that point on, despite RMC pulling within one on numerous occasions, the Paladins were unable to get back on even terms the rest of the set. Leading 18-17, the Excalibur made their push winning four of the next five points. Carrying a four-point lead late, Trent was able to withstand a late push from RMC and win the set 25-21.
In the middle set, the Paladins found themselves in trouble early and were not able to recover. On the wrong side of an 11-2 run, the Paladins were quickly down 13-3. From there, RMC was able to exchange points with Trent, but struggled to chip away at the deficit. The Excalibur would make another late push to guide them to the second set, 25-11.
Unfortunately, for RMC, the third set started similarly to the second. Again, generating momentum in a hurry, Trent won 17 of the first 21 points, to open a 17-4 lead. Determined to get back in the set, RMC continued to fight despite the score. The Paladin would narrow the gap to as little as eight, but that was as close as they would get before dropping the final set 25-15.
As they did the night prior,
Ashley Raymond and
Elisa Markentin once again tied for the team-high in kills with seven each.
Jayda Phillipson led the team in assists with 11, while Raymond had the team-high in digs with 10.
The Paladins will now turn their attention to the team's home-opener, which will take place October 31 in the SAM Gym.

Ces deux équipes s'étaient rendues à la limite des cinq manches la veille et ont démarré ce deuxième match consécutif avec beaucoup de parité. Chacune des équipes a connu sa part de séquences, si que l'écart était très mince de part et d'autre. À égalité 12-12 après trois points consécutifs inscrits par le CMR, Trent a repris les devants 14-12 et malgré l'écart qui s'est réduit à un point à quelques occasions, les Paladins n'ont plus repris les devants. En avant 18-17, Trent a remporté quatre des cinq échanges suivants et a maintenu une avance de quatre points en route vers un gain de 25-21.
En deuxième manche, les Paladins ont rapidement accusé un retard qu'ils n'ont jamais pu combler. Ne marquant que deux des 13 premiers points, ils se sont rapidement retrouvés en déficit de 10 points (13-3). De là, le CMR a été en mesure d'échanger les points avec Trent, mais sans réduire l'écart. L'Excalibur a réalisé une autre poussée en fin de manche pour s'imposer 25-11.
Malheureusement pour le CMR, le CMR a démarré la troisième manche comme il l'avait fait en deuxième, accordant 17 des 21 premiers points pour tirer de l'arrière 17-4. Malgré leur détermination, les joueuses du CMR ont continué de lutter jusqu'à la fin, réduisant l'écart à huit points avant de s'incliner 25-15.

Ashley Raymond et
Elisa Markentin ont une fois de chacune été les meilleures de leur camp avec sept attaques marquantes.
Jayda Phillipson a réalisé 11 passes tandis que Raymond a ajouté 10 récupérations.
Les Paladins se prépareront maintenant pour leur match d'ouverture local, le vendredi 31 octobre au SAM Gym.
