Having started their 2025-26 season on the road last weekend, the RMC Paladins were back in the familiar confines of the SAM Gym Friday night. Welcoming the McMaster Marauders to Kingston, RMC battled all night but wound up dropping three close sets, losing 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 24-26).
As the opening set got underway, the Paladins got off to a slow start, falling behind 12-5. However, from that point on RMC was able to keep up with McMaster throughout the match. Unfortunately, the seven-point deficit proved too big to overcome, as they would wind up losing the set by seven, 25-18.
With their feet underneath to start the second, the Paladins went back and forth with the Marauders for much of the set. McMaster would open up a small advantage at 11-7, but the Paladins continued to claw back. However, as RMC tried to push back, McMaster would often restore the advantage back to four. The Paladins narrowed the gap to 24-21 late, but that was as close as they would get.
Looking to get back into the match, the Paladins went back and forth with McMaster throughout the third. Neither side would create much of an edge throughout the set. Entering the late stages of the third, RMC held a narrow 19-18 advantage. Going back and forth, the Marauders opened up a 24-22 lead to earn a pair of match points. However, still fighting, RMC fended off both of those match points to even the set at 24-24. The Marauders would bounce back though to win the next two points and finish of the set and match.
Second-year outside hitter,
Carter Liu, registered a team-high nine kills for the Paladins.
Christian Patterson led the team in assists with 21, while
Robert Chua finished with team-high in digs with seven.
The Paladins will now look to bounce back tomorrow (Nov. 1), when they get a second chance at the Marauders. First serve is scheduled for 1530 from the SAM Gym.
Ayant démarré la saison 2025-2026 sur la route le weekend dernier, les Paladins du CMR étaient de retour dans le confort du SAM Gym vendredi soir. Accueillant les Marauders de McMaster à Kingston, le CMR a rivalisé toute la soirée, mais a perdu ce match au terme de trois manches serrées (18-25, 21-25 et 24-26).
Après un lent début de première manche, les Paladins tiraient de l'arrière 12-5. À partir de ce moment toutefois, les CMR a maintenu le rythme avec McMaster jusqu'à la fin du match. Malheureusement, l'écart de sept points s'est avéré trop important à combler, s'inclinant justement par sept points, 25-18.
Mieux positionnés pour démarrer la deuxième manche, les Paladins ont échangé point pour point avec les Marauders pendant la majeure partie de l'engagement. McMaster s'est créé un peu d'espace en prenant les devants 11-7, mais les Paladins ont réduit cet écart. Cependant, chaque fois que le CMR refermait l'écart, McMaster s'éloignait à nouveau pour rétablir une avance de quatre points. Les Paladins se sont rapprochés à trois points en fin de manche pour faire 24-21, mais c'est le plus près qu'ils ont été.
Cherchant à revenir dans le match, les Paladins ont répondu coup pour coup à McMaster tout au long de la troisième manche. Aucune équipe n'a pu s'éloigner au pointage. Vers la fin de l'engagement, le CMR profitait d'une mince avance de 19-18. Les Marauders ont renversé la vapeur pour mener 24-2 pour obtenir une paire de points de match. Toujours dans le match, le CMR a marqué les deux points suivants pour créer l'égalité 24-24. Cependant, les Marauders ont fait de même sur les deux points suivants pour l'emporter et mettre fin à la rencontre.

Carter Liu a réussi neuf attaques marquantes pour les Paladins, un sommet dans ce match.
Christian Patterson a mené l'équipe avec 21 passes, puis
Robert Chua a conclu la rencontre avec sept récupérations, au premier rang pour le CMR.
Les Paladins chercheront à rebondir samedi (1er nov.) encore une fois contre les Marauders. Le premier service sera effectué à 15 h 30 au SAM Gym.
