In perhaps the most unlikely of fashion, the RMC Paladins stormed back for their first win of the season Saturday afternoon at the SAM Gym. Trailing two sets to none, the Paladins went on to win three straight sets to take the match 3-2 (17-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-20, 15-10).
Trailing for most of the opening set, RMC had a tough time getting started. Regardless of the Paladin's efforts, Nipissing managed to maintain at least a three-point lead en route to a 25-17 first set win.
The second set saw Nipissing establish control early and maintain that control throughout. The Paladins would call time outs trailing 14-9 and 18-11, but couldn't seem to slow the visitors momentum. Going up 21-11, the Lakers would cruise to a 25-17 win.
In the third, the Paladins started to come to life. Gaining energy from their 12 kills in the set, RMC was able to carry the lead throughout much of the third. Although Nipissing would push last and create a match-point at 25-24, RMC would respond and take the set 27-25
Using the momentum that came with their third set victory, the Paladins were flying high in the fourth. Taking control, RMC forced a Nipissing timeout with the Paladins up 15-8. They then forced the Lakers into their second timeout up 21-16. A missed Nipissing serve at the end would secure RMC a 25-20 win, while forcing a fifth and deciding set.
Determined to complete the comeback, the Paladins again came out strong to start the set. RMC jumped out to a 5-1 lead. Up 8-4 at the switch, the Paladins further built up their lead to 12-6. Within one point of victory at 14-10,
Tommy Roussel flew into action with his 18
th kill of the match securing RMC's first win since February 13, 2022.
Andrew Gallant recorded a match-high 31 assists, while
Yanick Roy led RMC in digs with eight.
Trying to pick up a second straight win, the Paladins will return to the court on February 14 when they host Toronto.

En deuxième manche, Nipissing a une fois de plus pris le contrôle du jeu dès les premiers échanges sans jamais lâcher prise du reste de l'engagement. Les Paladins ont pris des temps d'arrêts alors qu'ils tiraient de l'arrière 14-9 et 18-11, mais cela a nullement ralenti le rythme des visiteurs. S'échappant 21-11, les Lakers ont gagné cette manche 25-17.
L'attaque des Paladins a pris vie en troisième manche, profitant de 12 attaques marquantes, le CMR a gardé l'avance pendant la majeure partie de l'engagement. Même si Nipissing a effectué une poussée en fin de manche et s'est retrouvé avec un point de manche (et de match) avec une avance de 25-24, mais le CMR a inscrit trois points de suite pour gagner 27-25.
Profitant de l'élan à la suite de cette troisième manche remportée cette saison, les Paladins ont dominé la quatrième manche. En plein contrôle, le CMR a forcé Nipissing à prendre un temps d'arrêt alors que les Paladins menaient 15-8, puis à nouveau à 21-16. Un service raté de Nipissing à la fin a toutefois procuré une victoire de 25-20 au CMR, forçant la tenue d'un bris d'égalité.
Déterminés à ce que cette remontée soit victorieuse, les Paladins ont démarré la cinquième manche avec conviction, prenant les devants 5-1. Menant 8-4 au changement de côté, les Paladins ont accru leur avance à 12-6. À un point de la victoire à 14-10,
Tommy Roussel a une fois de plus brillé avec sa 18e attaque marquante de la rencontre, concrétisant la première victoire du programme masculin de volleyball du CMR depuis le 13 février 2022.
Andrew Gallant a dominé les siens avec 31 passes tandis que Yannick Roy a mené le CMR avec huit récupérations.
Les Paladins se prépareront maintenant à remporter un deuxième match de suite, le vendredi 14 février,alors que les Varsity Blues de Toronto seront de passage à Kingston.
