Not since November 21 had the RMC Paladins been in Constantine Arena for an OUA contest. That changed Friday night when the Paladins took on the McGill Redbirds in Kingston. Despite keeping the game relatively close for the first two periods, RMC saw McGill pull away in the third, en route to a 6-1 loss.
RMC began the game creating a couple of opportunities for themselves to try and jump out in front. However, just under eight minutes into the contest it would be McGill who would strike first for a 1-0 lead. Then with a 5-on-3 powerplay, the Redbirds would take advantage of the opportunity, going up 2-0.
Trailing by two entering the second, the Paladins got back to work. Earning a powerplay of their own, RMC would make no mistake on the man-advantage. Following a couple of nice passes,
Cole Foston would backhand his ninth goal of the season to pull the Paladins within one. The momentum was short-lived though. Just under two minutes later, McGill would respond to restore their two-goal lead.
In the third period, the Redbirds would extend their lead to three with their second powerplay goal of the night. McGill would then tack on a pair of short-handed markers to round out their 6-1 win.
Between the pipes for RMC,
Michael Davis made 40 saves.
Connor Prestwich and
Bradley Blake each picked up an assists on Foston's goal.
RMC will look to turn the page quickly, as they return to the ice tomorrow. The Paladins will take on the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks at 1400hrs from Constantine Arena.
Les Paladins du CMR étaient de retour à l'Aréna Constantine pour la première fois depuis le 21 novembre pour un match des SUO. Vendredi soir, les Redbirds de McGill étaient de passage à Kinston. Malgré un match très serré dans les deux premières périodes, le CMR a été déclassé par McGill en troisième période, en route vers un revers de 6 à 1.
Le CMR a démarré ce match en créant quelques occasions de marquer et prendre les devants. Cependant, après un peu moins de huit minutes dans le match, McGill a ouvert la marque. Puis sur un avantage numérique à cinq contre trois, les Redbirds ont doublé leur avance.
Les Paladins se sont remis au boulot en début de deuxième période et après avoir profité d'une situation de surnombre, le CMR s'est inscrit à la marque. Après quelques belles passes,
Cole Foston a inscrit son neuvième but de la saison sur un tir du revers pour réduire l'écart à un seul but. Cette lancée a été de courte dure toutefois puisque McGill a répliqué pour rétablir l'avance de deux buts.
En troisième période, les Redbirds ont prolongé l'écart à trois buts avec leur deuxième but en avantage numérique de la soirée, puis une paire de deux buts en désavantage numérique pour compléter la marque dans une victoire de 6-1.

Connor Prestwich et
Bradley Blake ont chacun amassé une passe sur le but de Foston.
Le CMR cherchera à tourner la page rapidement puisque les Paladins seront de retour sur la patinoire de l'Aréna Constantine à l'occasion de la visite des Ridgebacks d'Ontario Tech.
