With just one game remaining on their schedule, the RMC Paladins returned to the Mattamy Athletic Centre Saturday afternoon, looking to close out the year on a high. Despite a strong effort, and close contest, RMC would have to settle for a fourth consecutive four-set loss, falling 3-1 (24-26, 20-25, 25-21, 13-25).
The Paladins got off to a strong start on Saturday. Getting strong offensive play from
Cameron Moar and
Carter Liu, RMC jumped out in front. Carrying the lead through much of the set, the Paladins would build up an 18-12 advantage. However, finding some momentum of their own, TMU would rattle off five straight points to pull within one at 18-17. The set would stay close the rest of the way. RMC earned a set point at 24-23 but were unable to convert. Instead, TMU would wind up winning the next three points to take the opening set 26-24.
The second set, like the first was, closely contested. However, this time around, it was the Bold who were able to go out in front, and maintain a small two to three point lead for much of the set. With TMU up 21-18, they began to pull away. Taking four of the next six points, TMU would finish off the closely contested set, 25-20.
Facing the potential of just one more set remaining in their season, the Paladins fought with everything they had left. Opening the third with a bang, RMC took an 8-3 lead. After TMU trimmed the lead down to 11-9, and later tied the set 16-16, the Paladins pushed back again. Winning four of the next five points, RMC re-established a small three-point lead. From there, they would not look back. Getting kills from Liu,
Tommy Roussel and
Andrew Marchi, RMC was able to extend their season by another set with a 25-21 win.
Unfortunately, there was not enough left in the tank for the Paladins in the fourth. TMU quickly jumped out 6-2 and kept rolling the rest of the way. RMC would get within three at 14-11, but that was as close as they would come before the Bold finished off the match, 25-13.
In their season finale, the Paladins were led by Liu in kills with 15, Patterson in assists with 33 and Roussel in digs with 12.

Steve Leknois, as he heads into retirement.

Malgré un solide effort, le CMR a dû se contenter d'une quatrième défaite consécutive en quatre manches, cette fois par des marques de 24-26, 20-25, 25-21 et 13-25.
Les Paladins avaient pourtant bien démarré cette rencontre. Profitant de l'excellent jeu offensif de
Cameron Moar et de
Carter Liu, le CMR a pris les devants et a mené pour la majeure partie de la manche, conduisant à une avance de 18-12. Cependant, le TMU a retrouvé son rythme et a marqué cinq points pour réduire l'écart à 18-17. Le CMR a obtenu un point de manche à 24-23, mais n'a pas été en mesure de fermer la porte. TMU a remporté les trois points suivants pour s'enfuir avec un gain de 26-24.
Comme ce fut le cas en première manche, la deuxième manche a été plutôt serrée. Cependant cette fois, c'est le Bold a pris l'initiative au pointage et a maintenu de courtes avances de deux ou trois points pour la majeure partie de l'engagement. Alors que TMU menait 21-18, ils ont accru l'avance, remportant quatre des six points suivants pour gagner 25-20.
Face à ce qui s'annonçait comme la dernière manche de leur saison, les Paladins se sont battus avec tout ce qu'ils avaient dans le réservoir. Démarrant l'engagement avec force, les visiteurs ont d'abord pris les devants 8-3. Après que cette avance a été réduite à deux points (11-9) puis en créant l'égalité (16-16), le CMR a réagi et a gagné quatre des cinq points suivants pour se redonner un coussin de trois points. De là, ils ont foncé jusqu'à la victoire grâce aux attaques marquantes de Liu,
Tommy Roussel et
Andrew Marchi, prolongeant ainsi leur saison d'une manche en l'emportant 25-21.
Malheureusement, c'est là que la remontée s'est arrêtée. En quatrième manche, TMU a pris les devants 6-2 et a poursuivi sur cette lancée. Le CMR s'est approché à trois points (14-11), mais ce fut tout. Le Bold a remporté 11 des 13 points suivants pour gagner 25-13.
Dans ce dernier match de la saison, les Paladins ont été menés par Liu avec 15 attaques marquantes, Patterson avec 33 passes et Roussel avec 12 récupérations
Cette rencontre marquait la 400e et dernière rencontre en carrière dans les SUO pour l'entraîneur-chef des Paladins
Steve Leknois alors qu'il prend sa retraite.
