The RMC Paladins season came to a close Saturday afternoon in Toronto. Battling the TMU Bold for the second straight day, RMC was unable to end the season with a win, but it was not for lack of effort in a 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 21-25) loss.
It was a tough start to the contest on Saturday afternoon for the Paladins. TMU would come out of the gates fast scoring the first six points of the match. Keeping the pressure on, the Bold would extend the lead to 11-2. Despite a substantial deficit, the Paladins kept fighting. After TMU grew the lead to 10, RMC was able to get it back down to eight on a couple of occasions. The team then made a late push too, but despite taking six of seven points, it was not enough to erase the TMU lead, as the Bold won the set 25-19.
The second set got off to a similar tart to the first one, unfortunately for RMC. Again building their lead early, TMU stormed to an 8-2 edge. This time though, the Paladins were able to cut into the lead substantially as the set played on. Scoring five of six points, the Paladins pulled back within two. RMC would then narrow the gap to just one on two different occasions. However, that was as close as they would get. With TMU up 14-13, the Bold scored five straight points, extending their lead to 19-13. Trailing by eight in the late stages, RMC would again put together a five of six run closing the TMU lead to 23-19. The Bold would go on to finish off the set though just two points later, 25-19.
Having fallen behind in the first two sets early on, the Paladin were able to flip the script in set number three. Going on the attack right away, RMC jumped out to a 5-2 lead before further extending it to 11-4. With TMU having taken a timeout just a couple of points before, the Bold seemingly were able to establish their plan shortly there after. All of a sudden, TMU went on to score six of the next eight points, closing the RMC lead down to 13-10. Doing their best to keep fending off TMU, RMC held a 16-12 edge, however, the Bold then made their move. Winning 10 of the next 12 points, TMU suddenly took a 22-18 lead that they would not relinquish. The Bold would go on to finish off the final set 25-21.
In her final match as a Paladin, graduating senior,
Eve Smith tallied a team-high 12 kills. Meanwhile, fellow seniors closing out their careers,
Jayda Phillipson and Ashely Raymond led the team in assists (21) and digs (15), respectively.
La saison de l'équipe féminine de volleyball des Paladins du CMR a pris fin samedi après-midi à Toronto. Contre le Bold de TMU pour un deuxième match en autant de jours, le CMR n'a pas été en mesure de trouver le sentier de la victoire dans cette dernière rencontre, mais a quand même déployé beaucoup d'efforts dans une défaite en trois manches (19-25, 19-25 et 21-25).
Les visiteuses ont connu un début de rencontre difficile alors que TMU a inscrit les six premiers points du match. Maintenant la pression, le Bold a prolongé son avance à 11-2. Malgré l'important retard, le CMR a été en mesure de réduire cette avance à huit points à quelques occasions. L'équipe a ensuite tenté une remontée, mais malgré cette poussée de six points sur sept, cela n'a pas suffi pour effacer l'écart et le Bold a remporté la manche 25-19.
Malheureusement pour les Paladins, la deuxième manche a démarré un peu comme la première. Démarrant une fois de plus à toute allure, TMU a pris les devants 8-2. Cette fois cependant, le CMR a su réduire l'écart de façon importante au fil des échanges. Marquant cinq points sur une séquence de six, les visiteuses se sont approchées deux fois à un seul point. Alors que TMU menait 14-13, le Bold a marqué cinq points de suite, portant la marque à 19-13. En retard par huit points en fin d'engagement, le CMR a une fois de plus marqué cinq points sur six, réduisant l'écart à 23-19. Le Bold a toutefois remporté la manche en marquant les deux points suivants pour gagner 25-19.
Face à ce retard de deux manches à zéro, les Paladins ont bien mieux fait pour entamer la troisième. Passant à l'attaque dès les premiers échanges, le CMR a pris les devants 5-2, puis 11-4. TMU a pris un temps d'arrêt quelques points auparavant, et le Bold a semblé retrouver ses repères peu de temps après, marquant six points de suite pour réduire leur retard à 13-10. Faisant de leur mieux pour repousser TMU, le CMR a mené 16-12, mais c'est alors que le Bold s'est enfui grâce à une récolte de 10 points sur 12 pour soudainement prendre les devants 22-18 et ne plus ensuite regarder derrière. Les Torontoises ont finalement remporté la manche 25-21 pour mettre fin au match.

Eve Smith a dominé la rencontre avec 12 attaques marquantes. Pendant ce temps, les autres finissantes
Jayda Phillipson et
Ashley Raymond ont été les meilleures de la rencontre avec 21 passes et 15 récupérations, respectivement.
