In their first of six meetings this season, the Paladins were defeated 3-2 in overtime by the Nipissing Lakers in North Bay on Friday night.
RMC nearly scored within the first minute of play, when
Nash McLean's shot rang off the post.
The Paladins went on to be outshot in the opening 20 minutes 15-6, but RMC goalie
Brad Van Schubert ensured Nipissing exited the first period only up 1-0, on a goal from Harrison Caines.
Sam Cameron tied the game for visitors in the second, after jumpstarting the play in his own end. Assistant captain
Noah Rowe collected the outlet pass and drove through the neutral zone before wristing a shot on goal. Cameron took full advantage of the rebound to score his first of the season.
Before the second intermission, Nipissing had regained the lead on a short-handed opportunity from Gael Lubwele.
Van Schubert continued to come up big in the third period, giving the Paladins a chance get back in the game.
With under five minutes to play, RMC tied the game on a tic-tac-toe passing play from
Alex MacDonald, to Cameron, and across the crease to
Devin Leduc, who found the back of the net.
After the final minutes of regulation expired without another goal, three-on-three overtime started at a frantic pace. Van Schubert snuffed out a Nipissing chance, and got up to spring
Christian Tsukamoto on a breakaway – but he couldn't end the game for the Paladins.
The Lakers closed out the game a minute into overtime when Lubwele scored his second of the game.
RMC and Nipissing will do it all again tomorrow in North Bay in a Saturday afternoon affair at 3:30 PM. The game will be broadcast live on OUA.tv.

Le CMR est passé bien près d'ouvrir la marque dès la première minute de jeu quand

Les Paladins ont été dominés 15-6 au chapitre des tirs en première période, mais le gardien
Brad Van Schubert du CMR s'est assuré que Nipissing rentre au vestiaire au premier entracte seulement avec avance de 1-0 grâce au but de Harrison Caines.
Sam Cameron a créé l'égalité pour les visiteurs en deuxième période après avoir démarré la séquence dans son propre territoire. L'adjoint au capitaine

Avant la fin de la deuxième période, Nipissing a repris les devants sur un but en désavantage numérique de Gael Lubwele.
Van Schubert a une fois de plus été énorme en troisième période, offrant aux Paladins l'occasion de revenir dans le match.
Avec moins de cinq minutes à jouer, le CMR a créé l'égalité au terme d'un magnifique jeu de passe, d'
Alex MacDonald à Cameron, puis de l'autre côté de l'enclave vers
Devin Leduc, qui a logé le disque dans le fond du filet. Tic-tac-toe et c'était tout à coup 2 à 2.
Aucun autre but n'a été marqué en temps réglementaire, donnant place à une prolongation à trois contre trois disputée sur les chapeaux de roue. Van Schubert a d'abord frustré Nipissing pour relancer
Christian Tsukamoto sur une échappée, mais il n'est pas parvenu à fermer les livres.
Les Lakers ont remporté ce match après une minute de prolongation quand Lubwele a inscrit son deuxième but de la rencontre.
