The RMC Paladins travelled to North Bay for a pair of games this weekend, losing both to the Nipissing Lakers. After picking up a point in an overtime loss on Friday night, RMC dropped Saturday's matchup 6-4 in regulation.
Devin Leduc, who scored the night before, nearly found the back of the net again in the first minute of play, tipping a point shot off the post.
RMC managed to open the scoring just a few minutes later on a perfectly executed play.
Brent Broaders collected the outlet pass in the neutral zone before finding
Christopher Paquette, who crossed the blue line with speed and sent the puck to
Brandon Machado in the slot. Machado made no mistake, finding the back of the net for his first as a Paladin.
Special teams were not RMC's friend early in Saturday's game, as Nipissing tied the game on a 5-on-3 power play before gaining the lead on the subsequent 5-on-4 opportunity. Ahead of the first intermission, the Lakers added to their lead with their second short-handed goal is as many nights to make it 3-1.
After the second period started with another Nipissing power play goal, RMC was able to claw a couple back.
First, assistant captain
Noah Rowe skated in from the blue line to score his first of the season, then
Christian Tsukamoto tipped in his first of the game.
Brad Van Schubert kept the Paladins in the game through the first 40 minutes, as Nipissing outshot the visitors 32-19, but the RMC starter needed to be replaced by
Joey May to start the third period.
Halfway through the final frame, the Lakers restored their two-goal lead, but Tsukamoto's second of the game shortly after brought the RMC deficit back to one on the power play.
Less than a minute after the Paladins made it 5-4, Nipissing scored the game's final goal, as it finished 6-4 for the home team.
RMC plays just one game next weekend, when they return to Kingston for a Friday night matchup at Queen's.

Avant le premier entracte, les Lakers ont augmenté leur avance avec leur deuxième but à court d'un homme en autant de soirs pour porter la marque à 3-1.
La deuxième période s'est amorcée avec un autre but en avantage numérique de Nipissing avant que le CMR soit en mesure de répliquer deux fois.
