The RMC Paladins women's volleyball team returned to action Friday night after having the pervious weekend off. Heading west on the 401, the Paladins travelled to Toronto where they were defeated 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 18-25).
Looking to get off to a strong start in the provincial capital, the Paladins went stride for stride with the Bold as the match got underway. Taking an early 4-3, RMC remained within striking distance as the set neared the midway point, trailing the Bold 12-10. From there though, TMU found some momentum and was able to go on a run. The Bold would go on to take 13 of the next 16 rallies, securing the opening set.
Throughout the second set, the Paladins were able to play from in front for much of the first half. Holding early leads of 4-2, 8-5 and 12-11, RMC had the home team trying to catch up. Unfortunately for the Paladins, with the set tied 15-15, TMU again would find some late set momentum and start to pull away. The Bold would win seven of the next eight points to go up 22-16, before winning the set 25-20.
Like the second set, the third one started with the Paladins again jumping out in front. Taking a 4-1 lead, RMC would continued to hold their early lead at 7-5. That however, is when TMU took control. Going on a 15-1 run, the Bold established a 20-8 advantage. Although the Paladins fought valiantly to get back into the set, it was not quite enough, as TMU finished off the match winning the third set 25-18.
Leading the way for the Paladins offensively was
Ashley Raymond, who finished the match with five kills.
Jayda Phillipson's eight assists were a team-high, while
Cassidy Chang led RMC with 10 digs.
The Paladins will return to the court at the Mattamy Athletic Centre once again tomorrow to take on the Bold. First serve is set for 1800.
L'équipe féminine de volleyball des Paladins du CMR étaient de retour au jeu vendredi soir après avoir profité d'un congé au cours du weekend dernier. Se déplaçant à l'ouest sur la 401, les Paladins étaient à Toronto où elles se sont inclinées en trois manches (13-25, 20-25 et 18-25) aux mains du Bold de TMU.
Cherchant à démarrer du bon pied dans la capitale provinciale, les Paladins ont répliqué coup sur coup avec le Bold en début de rencontre. Prenant les devants 4-3, le CMR est resté à la portée de ses hôtes jusqu'à la mi-manche, tirant de l'arrière 12-10. À partir de là, le TMU a trouvé son rythme et s'est mis à accumuler les points. Le Bold a remporté 13 des 16 échanges suivants pour remporter la manche initiale.
Tout au long de la deuxième manche, les Paladins ont été en mesure de jouer avec l'avance pendant la majeure partie de la première moitié. Menant 4-2, 8-5 et 12-11, le CMR a forcé le Bold à se rattraper. Malheureusement pour les Paladins, alors que le pointage était égalité 15-15, TMU est reparti sur une lancée de fin de manche et a créé un écart. Le Bold a remporté sept des huit échanges suivants pour mener 22-16 en route vers un gain de 25-20.
Comme en deuxième manche, la troisième a été marquée par une avance des Paladins. Menant 4-1, le CMR a maintenu l'avance à 7-5. C'est toutefois à ce moment que TMU a pris le contrôle. Remportant 15 des 16 exchanges suivants, le Bold a pris les devants 20-8. Même si les Paladins ont vaillamment lutté pour remonter la pente, ces efforts n'ont pas suffi et le Bold a remporté la troisième manche 25-18 et le match.

Ashley Raymond a conclu la rencontre avec cinq attaques marquantes. Les huit passes de
Jayda Phillipson étaient un sommet au sein de l'équipe, tandis que
Cassidy Chang a mené le CMR avec 10 récupérations.
Les Paladins ont à nouveau rendez-vous avec le Bold samedi à 18 h au Centre sportif Mattamy.
