Looking to bounce back from yesterday's three-set loss to the TMU Bold in Toronto, the Paladins women's volleyball team returned to the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Saturday for the latter half of the two day doubleheader. Although the Paladins would go on to win their first set of the season, it was not quite enough against TMU, ultimately dropping the match 3-1 (25-23, 16-25, 11-25, 19-25).
Coming out strong, RMC set the tone early on in the opening set. After going up 5-2, the Paladins withstood a push from the Bold, before taking another lead at 15-14. From that point on, RMC would not allow TMU to regain the lead the rest of the set. Unfortunately for RMC, following a back and forth beginning to the second set, the Bold were able to take control of the set midway through. With TMU leading 9-8, the Bold went on an 11-4 run to take control at 20-12. From there, they were able to put the set away 25-16.
In a pivotal third set, regardless of RMC's efforts, they had a tough time getting on track. TMU quickly jumped out to a 5-0 advantage before further extending it to 15-7 and later 19-9. Trying to get back in the set, the Paladins were unable to find any answers, falling 25-11.
Looking to force a fifth and deciding set, the Paladins come out on fire. Battling to win 12 of the first 18 points, RMC was able to take a 12-6 lead and force TMU into a timeout. However, the timeout seemed to help swing momentum back into the Bold's corner. Going on a run of their own, TMU won nine of ten rallies to go out in front 15-13. The Bold would continue to keep the pressure on RMC the rest of the way before winning the final set 25-19.
Smith and
Ashley Raymond tied with a team-high of eight kills.
Cassidy Chang had a team-high 17 assists, while
Lilie Demelo led the Paladins in digs with 19.
The Paladins will now get a chance to rest up before returning to the court in December. RMC will return to action on December 1
st when they host the Waterloo Warriors. First serve is set for 2000.

Malheureusement pour le CMR, après un début de deuxième manche bien partagée, le Bold a pris le contrôle de l'engagement. Menant 9-8, les hôtes ont marqué 11 des 15 échanges suivants pour prendre les devants 20-12. C'est sur cette note que le Bold a vogué vers une victoire de 25-16.
Malgré leurs efforts, les Paladins ont peiné à trouver leurs repères dans une troisième manche cruciale et le TMU a rapidement pris les devants 5-0 en route vers des avances de 15-7 et 19-9. Le CMR allait marquer deux autres points pour s'incliner 25-11.
Cherchant à revenir dans le match et provoquer un bris d'égalité, les Paladins ont démarré la quatrième manche en feu, prenant les devants 12-6 et forçant un temps d'arrêt du Bold. Au retour de cette courte pause, les hôtes ont repris le contrôle de la manche, marquant des points dans neuf des 10 échanges suivants pour prendre les devants 15-13. Le Bold a maintenu la pression sur ses adversaires pour finalement l'emporter 25-19 et ainsi mettre fin à la rencontre.

Cassidy Chang a contribué avec 17 passes, tandis que
Lilie Demelo a amassé 19 récupérations.
