Having played just four matches so far to start the 2023-24 OUA season, the RMC Paladins began their final weekend set before the December exam break. Welcoming the Waterloo Warriors to the SAM Gym, the Paladins were upended by the visitors, falling in three sets.
Despite not having much opportunity so far for in-game experience, the Paladins did look fresh from their early season rest, as they came out swinging against the Warriors. Tallying eight kills in the opening set, RMC was able to keep up with Waterloo for much of the set. Towards the latter stages though, the Warriors were able to build a lead and pull away, winning 25-18.
In the second set, the Paladins were unable to generate quite the same amount of momentum throughout the set as they did in the first. Falling behind early, RMC was never quite able to regain control in the set, losing 25-15.
Determined to keep the match alive, the Paladins played a strong third set, holding a lead through much of it. Getting off to a fast start, RMC was able to jump out by as many as four points nearing the midway point. Battle-tested though, Waterloo found a way to slowly but surely claw back into the set. Using a couple of runs of their own, the Warriors were able to take the lead late, before finishing off the set 25-19 to sweep the match.
Leading the way on offence for the Paladins was
Emma Titley, who recorded six kills.
Cassidy Chang finished the match as the team leader in assists with nine, meanwhile
Emilie Boileau and
Ashley Raymond tied for the team lead in digs with seven.
With just one match to play before the break, RMC will once again take on Waterloo tomorrow (Nov. 2) afternoon. The Paladins and Warriors will take to the SAM Gym court at 1600.
Après seulement quatre matchs disputés pour lancer la saison 2023-2024 des SUO, les Paladins du CMR ont entrepris leur dernier weekend d'activité avant la pause pour les examens de décembre. Les Warriors de Waterloo étaient de passage au SAM Gym où elles ont vaincu les Paladins en trois manches.
N'ayant pas trop joué jusqu'à présent cette saison, les joueuses des Paladins semblaient toujours en grande forme en ce début de saison et elles ont démarré la première manche avec aplomb contre les Warriors. Amassant huit attaques marquantes dans cette manche initiale, le CMR a tenu bon avec Waterloo pour la majeure partie de la manche, avant de voir les visiteuses créer un écart pour l'emporter 25-18.
En deuxième manche, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de générer le même niveau d'énergie et de rythme tout au long de la manche comme elles l'ont fait en première. Tirant de l'arrière tôt, le CMR n'a pas été en mesure de combler l'écart et s'est incliné 25-15.
Déterminées à prolonger ce match, les joueuses des Paladins ont joué une grosse troisième manche, menant au pointage pour la majeure partie de l'engagement. Profitant d'un bon départ, le CMR menait par quatre points à mi-chemin. Possédant une grande expérience, Waterloo a trouvé le moyen de remonter lentement et sûrement, profitant de séquences de points pour reprendre les devants en route vers un gain de 25-19 qui a complété le balayage.
Ouvrant la voie à l'attaque pour les Paladins,
Emma Titley a amassé six attaques marquantes.
Cassidy Chang a conclu la rencontre avec neuf passes, tandis qu'Émilie Boileau et
Ashley Raymond ont chacune amassé sept récupérations.
Avec un seul match à jouer avant la pause, le CMR jouera une fois de plus contre Waterloo samedi après-midi (2 décembre). Cette rencontre démarrera à 16 h au SAM Gym.
