Rounding out the 2023 portion of their OUA regular season schedule, the RMC Paladins took on the Waterloo Warriors for the second consecutive day at the SAM Gym. Unable to slow down a strong Waterloo offence, the Paladins suffered a three-set loss to Waterloo, falling 11-25, 18-25, 15-25.
Early on, the Paladins had a tough time getting on track against the visitors. With Waterloo quickly jumping out a 5-1 lead, RMC was having to try and battle back from the beginning. As the set went on, the Warriors were able to further stretch their lead, forcing the Paladins into an uphill battle for the rest of the set. Maintaining their momentum, Waterloo would go on to take the set 25-11.
Trying to even the match at a set a piece, RMC was able to jump out to an early lead in the middle set. Going up 9-7, the Paladins were able to gain a bit of their own. However, despite trailing, Waterloo was able to regain control. Winning nine of the next 13 points, Waterloo took a three point lead midway through the set, forcing a Paladin's timeout. Although they battled to slow down Waterloo each point, the Paladins were unable to cut into the deficit, dropping the second set 25-18.
Tasked with coming back from two sets down, the Paladins once again gave themselves a chance in the early stages of the third set. Going back and forth with Waterloo, neither side was able to separate much early on. With Waterloo holding a two-point advantage at 12-10, RMC called time-out. Coming out of the stoppage though, it was Waterloo who was able to further increase their lead. Using strong serving and an aggressive attack at the net, the Warriors pulled away from RMC to win the third set 25-15 and sweep the match.
Emma Titley had a team-high seven kills for RMC.
Jayda Phillipson led the Paladins in assists with 13, while
Emilie Boileau finished with a team-high seven digs.
With the winter break now upon the team, RMC will have the next month off. The team will resume their regular season schedule on January 6
th with a trip to St. Catharines, Ont., to battle the Brock Badgers.

Incapable de ralentir la puissante attaque de Waterloo, les Paladins se sont inclinées en trois manches consécutives (11-25, 18-25 et 15-25).

Au fil des points, les Warriors ont été en mesure d'accroître l'écart, compliquant toute remontée jusqu'à la fin de la manche. Gardant le cap, Waterloo a remporté ce premier engagement 25-11.
Cherchant à créer l'égalité, le CMR a pris les devants en début de deuxième manche. Menant 9-7, les Paladins ont toutefois vu les Warriors renverser la vapeur, remportant neuf des 13 points suivants pour mener par trois points à mi-chemin dans la manche. Les Paladins ont alors pris un temps d'arrêt et bien qu'elles aient bataillé pour ralentir la progression de Waterloo sur chaque échange, l'écart n'a jamais été menacé et les Warriors l'ont emporté 25-18.
Devant combler un retard de deux manches, les Paladins se sont une fois de plus donné l'occasion de remporter une première manche en début de troisième. Échangeant les points avec Waterloo, aucune des deux équipes n'a su faire de maîtres. Avec Waterloo devant 12-10, le CMR a pris un temps d'arrêt. Dès la reprise, Waterloo a accru son avance et grâce à ses services et à ses attaques agressives, les Warriors se sont échappés pour remporter la manche 25-15 et le match.
Emma Titley a dominé la production chez les Paladins avec sept attaques marquantes.
Jayda Phillipson a été la meilleure chez les hôtes avec 13 passes tandis qu'Émilie Boileau a conclu la rencontre avec sept récupérations.
Maintenant que nous arrivons à la pause hivernale, le CMR profitera d'un mois de congé. L'équipe reprendra l'action en saison régulière le 6 janvier avec un déplacement vers St. Catharines en Ontario pour y affronter les Badgers de Brock.
