Returning home for their first contest of 2024 at the SAM Gym, the RMC Paladins women's volleyball team played host to the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night. In what was the first of two matches in two days between the two teams, the Paladins dropped the contest 3-0 (16-25, 11-25, 12-25).
As the match got underway, the Paladins were able to take an early lead. However, the Gryphons would quickly battle back, taking a 10-6 lead. Guelph continued to roll from there, jumping out to a 16-7 advantage before winning the set 25-16.
For the Paladins, the second set did not go there way. Guelph was able to establish momentum early and carry it though the entire set. Going up 17-4, the Gryphons fended off any RMC comeback attempts en route to a 25-11 win.
Through the third set, Guelph maintained control. Although the Paladins did their best to work their way back into the match, their attempts were unsuccessful. Instead, Guelph once again created separation before finishing off the set, and the match, 25-12.
Elisa Markentin, who recorded four kills, led the Paladins attack.
Emilie Boileau's six assists were a team-high, while
Lilie Demelo tied Boileau for the team lead in digs with nine.
The Paladins will return to the SAM Gym on Saturday when they play host to Guelph once again. First serve is set for 1400 hrs.
De retour à la maison pour leur premier match de 2024 au SAM Gym la formation féminine de volleyball des Paladins du CMR accueillait les Gryphons de Guelph vendredi soir. Dans le premier de deux manches en deux soirs, les Paladins ont subi un revers en trois manches (16-25, 11-25 et 12-25).
Les Paladins ont démarré la rencontre en prenant les devants, mais les Gryphons ont trouvé le moyen de renverser la vapeur pour mener 10 à 6. Guelph a poursuivi sur sa lancée pour mener 16-7 avant de remporter cette manche initiale 25-16.
La deuxième manche a été dominée d'un bout à l'autre par Guelph, qui a dicté le rythme tôt et a gardé le cap. Menant 17-4, les Gryphons ont empêché le CMR de revenir au pointage pour l'emporter 25-11.
Guelph a gardé le contrôle sur la rencontre en troisième manche. Bien que les Paladins aient fait de leur mieux pour revenir au pointage, les tentatives ont été infructueuses. Guelph a créé un écart trop important pour conclure la rencontre sur un gain de 25-12.
Elisa Markentin a mené l'équipe hôte avec quatre attaques marquantes.
Emilie Boileau a amassé six passes, un Sommet chez les siennes, en plus de partager les tâches défensives avec
Lilie Demelo, accumulant neuf récupérations chacune.
Les joueuses des Paladins seront de retour face à ces mêmes Gryphons samedi après-midi au SAM Gym à compter de 14 h 00.
