Returning to action Friday night, the RMC Paladins welcomed the Trent Excalibur to the SAM Gym for the first of two matches in as many days. Although RMC kept each set close, they were unable to get past Trent, falling 3-0 (21-25, 17-25, 21-25).
Throughout the first set, neither side was able to create much separation. With both sides taking small leads of a point or two, there was very little between Trent and RMC. The score remained close as the teams approached twenty points, however, Trent was able to pick up some momentum from that point and go on to win the opening set 25-21.
The second set varied a little bit from the first in the beginning. Using the energy of their opening set win, Trent came out flying to start the second set, establishing a quick 4-0 advantage. Using that early run, the Excalibur were able to hold off a few different runs from the Paladins, keeping their lead throughout the set. Trent would then pull away lit to clinch the set 25-17.
In the final set, the two teams once again were having a difficult time pulling away from each other. Returning to the fashion of the first set, RMC continued to hang with Trent throughout the set.
Unfortunately, the Excalibur were once again able to pull away late and win their second 25-21 set of the match.
Making an impact throughout the match,
Elisa Markentine finished with a team-high eight kills, to go with a solo block.
Cassidy Chang led the team in assists with 10, while
Lilie Demelo recorded a game-high 10 digs.
The Paladins will once again host the Excalibur on January 20. First serve is set for 1400 hrs.
De retour au jeu vendredi soir, les Paladins du CMR accueillaient l'Excalibur de Trent au SAM Gym dans le premier de deux matchs en autant de jours. Bien que le CMR a rivalisé tout au long de ce match pour maintenir le pointage serré, les visiteurs ont signé une victoire en trois manches (21-25, 17-25 et 21-25).
Aucune des deux équipes n'a pu s'échapper en première manche. Chaque formation a su se donner une avance d'un ou deux points, mais sans plus jusqu'à l'approche de la vingtaine. Trent est passé à la vitesse supérieure à ce moment pour remporter la manche initiale 25-21.
Le début de deuxième manche a été un peu différent puisque Trent a remporté les quatre premiers échanges et a été en mesure de garder le cap, empêchant les Paladins d'y aller de longues séquences de points. Trent a même accru son avance pour l'emporter 25-17.
Dans la troisième et dernière manche, des deux équipes, ni une, ni l'autre ne sont parvenues à se donner de coussin. Comme en première manche, le CMR a tenu bon jusqu'à la fin de la manche avec les visiteurs. L'Excalibur est encore une fois parvenu à appuyer sur l'accélérateur en fin de manche et a soldé la rencontre sur un gain de 25-21.
Elisa Marketine a dominé la prestation offensive des hôtes avec huit attaques marquantes en plus d'un contre en solo.
Cassidy Chang a mené les Paladins avec 10 passes puis
Lilie Demelo a accumulé 10 récupérations.
Les Paladins accueilleront l'Excalibur à nouveau le samedi 20 janvier à compter de 14 h.
