Returning to the court after a tight three-set loss less than 24-hours ago, the RMC Paladins once again went toe-to-toe with the Trent Excalibur Saturday afternoon. Jumping out to a 2-0 lead, the Paladins came up just short of securing their first win of the season, dropping a 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 12-15) decision to the visitors from Peterborough.
The Paladins could not have drawn up a better start on Saturday. Using strong play at the net, the Paladins were able to carry a lead through much of the opening set. Holding that momentum, RMC was able to come away with the first set, 25-22.
The second set played out in a very similar fashion to the first, which worked out just fine for RMC. With neither side separating much, the Paladins still managed to hold a one to two point lead for much of it. Then as the conclusion of the set neared, RMC would go on to pull away for a 25-21 win.
Attempting to finish off their first victory of the year, the Paladins continued to fight through the third set. However, despite their efforts, RMC was never quite able to gain the edge they had held through the first two sets. Instead, the Excalibur were able to take a late lead of 23-19. After a brief push from RMC, narrowing the lead to 24-22, Trent was able to finish off the set and force a fourth.
Looking to extend the match the distance, Trent came out strong in the fourth and never looked back. Going up 13-9, the Excalibur then extended their lead to 20-14 to create some breathing room. In the end, Trent would take the set 25-19.
In the final set, it was Trent that was able to take the first lead. Holding a small advantage through much of the set, the Excalibur led 8-7 at the switch. From there, the visitors were able to extend their lead to 13-10 and put the Paladins on the brink. RMC would once again battle back, but it was not quite enough, as they fell 15-12.

Emilie Boileau had a team-high 16 assists, while
Lilie Demelo led the team in digs with 19.
The Paladins will now hit the road for Toronto. RMC will take on the Varsity Blues on January 26.

Les Paladins n'auraient pas pu connaître un meilleur départ samedi. Solides au filet, elles ont été en mesure de maintenir l'avance pendant la majeure partie de la première manche. Sur cet élan, les hôtes ont remporté la première manche 25-22.
La deuxième manche a été disputée à l'image de la première, ce qui a fait le bonheur du CMR. Le pointage est demeuré serré tout au long de la manche, bien que les Paladins aient maintenu une avance d'un ou deux points pendant la majeure partie de cet engagement. Ce n'est qu'à la fin de la manche que le CMR s'est donné une plus grande priorité pour l'emporter 25-21.

En effet, l'Excalibur a pris les devants 23-19 et a résisté à une poussée de fin de manche des locales pour gagner 25-22 et forcer la tenue d'une quatrième manche.
Cherchant à pousser la rencontre au bris d'égalité, Trent est sorti en force en quatrième manche et n'a plus regardé derrière. Menant 13-9, l'Excalibur a prolongé son avance à 20-14 pour se donner de l'espace. À la fin, Trent a remporté cette quatrième manche 25-19.
En cinquième et dernière manche, Trent a pris les devants et a maintenu une petite avance pendant la majeure partie du bris d'égalité, l'Excalibur menait 8-7 au changement de côté de terrain. De là, les visiteurs ont accru leur avance à 13-10, poussant les Paladins à la limite. Le CMR a une fois de plus rebondi, mais pas suffisamment pour s'incliner 15-12.

Lilie Demelo a ajouté 19 récupérations.
Les Paladins prendront la direction de Toronto pour y affronter les Varsity Blues, le vendredi 26 janvier.
