The RMC Paladins returned to action Saturday night making their longest road trip of the season right out of the break. Heading northwest across the province, the Paladins travelled to Thunder Bay, Ont., for a date with the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Beginning 2024 on a happy note, the Paladins were able to secure a 3-1 victory over the Thunderwolves.
Despite having just returned from a month long break, and having to travel over 1,500km, the Paladins showed very little sings of rest, and even managed to get on the board first. Taking full advantage of a rebound in tight,
Devin Leduc deposited his third goal of the season just over five minutes into the contest to put RMC up 1-0.
Carrying that lead into the second frame, the Paladins continued to hold their one goal advantage through much of the period. Despite attempts from both teams, neither was able to do any damage until the late stages. Following an RMC penalty, the Thunderwolves were able to capitalize with just only 19 seconds to go in the period, as they tied the score 1-1 heading into the intermission.
Able to shake off the Lakehead equalizer, the Paladins quickly got back to work. Creating chances all throughout the period, the Paladins were eventually able to retake the lead with a little over five minutes to go in regulation. Finding a loose puck in the neutral zone,
Josh Spratt skated in on a partial breakaway and made no mistake to put RMC up 2-1. Then with Lakehead pressing for the tying goal late,
Devin Pimm sent a shot down the length of the ice and into the empty Thunderwolves net to seal the victory.

Michael Davis turned aside 32 shots in the win.
RMC will now return to Kingston and prepare for a road battle on January 13 with their cross-town foes, the Queen's Gaels. Puck drop is set for 1930.
Les Paladins du CMR étaient de retour au jeu samedi soir à l'occasion de leur plus long déplacement de la saison dès leur retour de pause des fêtes. Dans un match disputé à Thunder Bay dans le nord-ouest de l'Ontario, les joueurs du CMR ont lancé la portion 2024 de leur calendrier régulier en signant une victoire de 3-1 sur la patinoire des Thunderwolves de Lakehead.
Après un mois de pause et 1500 km de route, les Paladins ont démontré qu'ils étaient en jambe malgré tout, ouvrant même la marque. Profitant d'un court rebond dans l'enclave,
Devin Leduc a marqué son troisième but de la saison après seulement cinq minutes de jeu pour donner les devants 1-0 aux Paladins.
Démarrant la deuxième période sur ce mince coussin d'un but, les Paladins ont tenu bon pendant une bonne partie de l'engagement. Malgré les occasions de part et d'autre, il a fallu attendre la fin de la période pour voir les Thunderwolves créer l'égalité avec seulement 19 secondes à écouler avant le deuxième entracte.
Les Paladins se sont rapidement remis au travail en troisième période, créant de nombreuses occasions pour rompre l'égalité, ce qu'ils ont fait avec un peu plus de cinq minutes à écouler au temps réglementaire. Prenant possession d'une rondelle libre au centre de la patinoire, Josh Pratt s'est échappé au filet et a fait mouche pour donner les devants 2-1 au CMR. Alors que Lakehead s'efforçait de recréer l'égalité en fin de rencontre,
Devin Pimm a envoyé la rondelle d'un bout à l'autre de la patinoire dans un filet désert pour sceller l'issue de la rencontre.
Michael Davis a repoussé 32 tirs pour remporter la victoire devant le filet des Paladins.
Les joueurs du CMR rentreront à Kingston pour rendre visite aux voisins des Gaels de Queen's, le samedi 13 janvier à 19 h 30.
