Determined to start off 2024 on the right foot, the RMC Paladins paid a visit to the Brock Badgers Saturday night to resume their OUA regular season schedule. Although they battled, the Paladins were unable to upend the Badgers, falling 3-0 (18-25, 15-25, 11-25).
As the match got underway, the Paladins quickly found themselves in a small hole, trailing 3-0. Doing their best not to allow the deficit to expand, RMC managed to go back and forth with Brock during the early stages, staying within two points at 11-9. Unfortunately for the Paladins, it was at that point that the Badgers began to make their run. Winning six straight rallies, Brock all of a sudden had built up a 17-9 lead. With the extra breathing room, Brock went on to win the set 25-18.
During the second set, the Paladins once again found themselves falling behind a couple of points early in the set. Once again, like the set prior, the Paladins were able to battle back and keep the match close as the scores hit double-digits. Trailing by just one point at 10-9, RMC would wind up on the wrong side of momentum going forward as the Badgers went on a 10-2 run. Brock then ultimately won the set 25-15.
With their backs against the wall entering the third set, the Paladins did their best to battle back, however, the Badgers proved to be too much on Saturday night. Although RMC was able to grab an 8-7 lead early on in the set, Brock would go on a big run the rest of the way to win the set 25-11.
David Feher led the Paladins offensively with six kills.
Andrew Gallant had a team-high eight assists, while Feher's four digs were also a team-high.
The Paladins will look to right the ship tomorrow afternoon when they get a second chance at the Badger. The two teams will meet at 1600 for the latter-half of their two match weekend.

Malgré leurs ardeurs, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de s'imposer face aux Badgers, s'inclinant en trois manches (18-25, 15-25 et 11-25).
Les Paladins ont laissé leurs adversaires inscrire les trois premiers points de la rencontre puis se sont bien battus en remportant neuf des 17 points suivants pour réduire l'écart à deux points (9-11). Malheureusement, c'est à ce moment que les Badgers sont passés à la vitesse supérieure, remportant six échanges consécutifs pour mener 17-9. Cet écart confortable a permis aux hôtes de poursuivre en route vers un gain de 25-18.
En deuxième manche, les Paladins ont à nouveau accusé un retard dès le départ, puis ont lutté pour s'approcher à un seul point (9-10). Le CMR n'a ensuite remporté que deux des 12 points suivants (11-20), dans une manche remportée 25-15 par les hôtes.
Le dos au mur en troisième manche, les Paladins n'ont jamais abandonné, mais les Badgers ont eu le dernier mot. Malgré une avance de 8-7, le CMR a été renversé par Brock qui a marqué 22 des 25 points suivants pour l'emporter 25-11.
David Feher a mené les Paladins avec six attaques marquantes et quatre récupérations tandis qu'
Andrew Gallant a été le meilleur des siens avec huit passes.
Les Paladins auront l'occasion de se reprendre face à ces mêmes Badgers, dimanche à 16 h dans le deuxième et dernier match de cette série à St. Catharines.
