Seeking their first win of the season, the RMC Paladins were in for a tough test, playing host to the No. 5 nationally ranked TMU Bold on Sunday. Despite the difference in record, the Paladins put up perhaps their best performance of the season, but in the end dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision.

Playing in very windy conditions, both teams took some time in the early stages to try and get acclimated to the gusting winds.

For much of the first half, both squads defences we coming through for their respective teams, not allowing either side onto the scoreboard. However, in the 35^th minute, the visitors would find the back of the net, thanks to a nifty play in the box by former U SPORTS player of the year, Christopher Campoli.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, RMC would come out for the second half with the wind at their backs. With that extra breeze, the Paladins were able to push the ball towards the TMU goal with consistency. Then, in the 55^th minute, RMC would find the equalizer.

With the ball on his boot standing about 20-yards in on the TMU side of half, second-year midfield Ethan Kim launched a strike that flew into the TMU goal.

All knotted up at one a piece, both sides pushed to take the lead. With RMC giving their all, a loose ball wound up in the Paladin's box, and TMU was able to convert in the 73^rd minute.

Although they battled, the Paladins were unable to find the equalizer in the final 17 minutes, and would suffer a hard-fought 2-1 loss.

In goal for RMC, Finn Gregoire made five saves for the Paladins. Along with Kim's goal, Chris Knock and Will Dockery each recorded a shot on goal as well.

Following the match, the Paladins honoured their five graduation seniors this year: Joshua Ahn, Colin Burns, Charbel Haddad, Daniel Jung and Dominic Yakonowsky.

Next up for RMC will be their final game of the regular season when they host the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on October 13.

À la recherche de leur première victoire de la saison, les Paladins du CMR faisaient face à tout un défi alors que le Bold de TMU, classé cinquième au pays, était en visite dimanche. Malgré deux fiches diamétralement opposées, les Paladins ont offert ce qui est peut-être leur meilleure performance de la saison, mais ils ont finalement perdu un match âprement disputé par la marque de 2 à 1.

Jouant dans des conditions très venteuses, les deux équipes ont mis du temps pour s'acclimater aux rafales en début de rencontre.

Pendant la majeure partie de la première mi-temps, les deux défensives se sont montrées à la hauteur, ne permettant à aucune des deux équipes de s'inscrire au tableau. Les visiteurs ont toutefois trouvé le fond du filet à la 35e minute grâce à une manœuvre habile de l'ancien joueur de l'année de U SPORTS, Christopher Campoli, dans la surface de réparation.

Tirant de l'arrière 1-0 à la mi-temps, le CMR a entamé la deuxième mi-temps avec le vent dans le dos. Profitant de cette brise, les Paladins ont été en mesure d'amener le ballon vers le but de TMU avec régularité. Puis, à la 55e minute, le CMR a créé l'égalité.

Avec le ballon au pied à environ 20 verges à l'intérieur de la zone de TMU, le milieu de terrain de deuxième année Ethan Kim s'est élancé pour une frappe qui a frayé son chemin vers le fond du filet de TMU.

À égalité, les deux équipes ont tout tenté pour prendre les devants. Alors que le CMR donnait tout ce qu'il avait, un ballon perdu s'est retrouvé dans la surface de réparation des Paladins et TMU en a profité pour enfoncer le ballon dans le filet à la 73e minute.

Bien qu'ils se soient battus férocement, les Paladins n'ont pas été en mesure de créer l'égalité dans les 17 dernières minutes, encaissant une défaite honorable de 2-1.

Devant le filet du CMR, Finn Gregoire a réalisé cinq arrêts pour les Paladins. En plus du but de Kim, Chris Knock et Will Dockery ont chacun enregistré un tir au but.

Après le match, les Paladins ont rendu hommage à leurs cinq finissants de cette année : Joshua Ahn, Colin Burns, Charbel Haddad, Daniel Jung et Dominic Yakonowsky.

Le prochain match du CMR sera le dernier de la saison régulière, alors qu'il accueillera les Ridgebacks d'Ontario Tech le 13 octobre prochain.
