Looking to shake off their two losses last weekend, the RMC Paladins were back in action Friday evening as they welcomed the TMU Bold to Kingston. The two teams would be on an incredible, nearly two and half hour, match that RMC just came up short in, falling 3-2 (21-25, 25-23, 33-31, 18-25, 10-15).
It did not take long for either team to create lots of energy in the SAM Gym. Both sides come out swinging with plenty of hard spikes throughout the contest. The opening set was tight from start to finish. However, TMU was able to control the lead through much of the set, although, the lead was hardly ever beyond three points. That small lead for TMU would hold though as they took the opening set 25-21.
The second set was more of the same from the two sides with both offences showing their strength. This time though, it was RMC that was able to create a bit of separation towards the end, building up a 22-18 lead, causing a TMU timeout. The Bold would claw back, but the Paladins were able to hold them off to win the set 25-23.
The middle set of the match was one for the ages. RMC was able to take an early 8-5 lead, but that was as big of an advantage that either side would create the rest of the way. For most of the set, neither side led by more than two points. As the set got late, the teams continued to exchange points. Tied 22-22, RMC nor TMU were able to gain the two-point advantage necessary for the set victory. Finally, leading 32-31, the Paladins were able to secure the set 33-31 and take a two to one sets lead.
Trying to put the Bold away, RMC found themselves in tough during the fourth set. TMU would hold a small lead for much of the set before extending it late to force a fifth with a 25-18 win.
Unfortunately, for RMC, it was TMU that was able to quickly establish control of the deciding set. Leading 8-4 at the switch, the Bold forced a Paladins timeout a point later at 9-4. Later trailing 11-4, RMC did their back to get back in the set, but came up just short, dropping the fifth, 15-10.

Andrew Gallant recorded a match-high 40 assists, while libero
Yanick Roy led the team in digs with 11.
The two sides will now try to rest up quickly before battling each other again on November 2 at 1400hrs in the SAM Gym.

Les deux équipes se sont livré un duel incroyable de près de deux heures et demie que les Paladins ont échappé en cinq manches (21-25, 25-23, 33-31, 18-25, 10-15).
Il n'a pas fallu longtemps pour que cette rencontre s'enflamme au SAM Gym. Les deux équipes se sont échangé les attaques marquantes tout au long de ce marathon. Si la première manche a été serrée du début à la fin, TMU a contrôlé l'avance pendant la majeure partie, bien que l'écart n'ait jamais dépassé trois points. Le Bold a toutefois maintenu l'avance pour l'emporter 25-21.
En deuxième manche, le scénario s'est répété alors que les attaques des deux formations ont déployé leurs muscles. Cette fois par contre, c'est le CMR qui avait l'avantage, menant 22-18 pour alors forcer un temps d'arrêt des visiteurs. Le Bold a remonté la pente, mais les Paladins ont eu le dernier mot pour gagner 25-23.
La troisième manche de cette rencontre a été épique. Le CMR a pris les devants 8-5, mais ce fut là le plus grand écart qu'il y a eu de toute la manche. Jamais les équipes n'ont mené par plus de deux points, s'échangeant les points coup sur coup. À égalité 22-22, aucune équipe n'est parvenue à se donner l'écart nécessaire pour l'emporter. Menant 32-31, les Paladins ont finalement marqué le point qui a fait la différence et ils ont pris les devants deux manches contre une.
Tentant de remporter la quatrième manche et la rencontre, le CMR s'est toutefois retrouvé à la remorque des visiteurs qui ont maintenu une courte avance pour la majeure partie de la manche avant de s'échapper sur le tard pour l'emporter 28-18.
Malheureusement pour le CMR, le TMU a rapidement pris le contrôle du bris d'égalité. Menant 8-4 au changement de côté, le Bold a forcé un temps d'arrêt des Paladins en inscrivant le point suivant. Encaissant les deux points qui ont suivi le retour de la pause, le CMR a fait de son mieux pour revenir à la marque, inscrivant six des 10 points suivants, mais s'est quand même incliné 15-10.

Les deux équipes profiteront des prochaines heures pour se remettre sur pied avant de se retrouver samedi à 14 h au SAM Gym pour le deuxième de leurs deux rencontres du weekend au SAM Gym.
