With one last game on the schedule before a month long break, the RMC Paladins were back in action Saturday afternoon, playing their second match in as many days against the Western Mustangs. Trying to find a way into the win column, the Paladins were unable to solve the Mustangs on Saturday, falling 3-0 (11-25, 14-25, 13-25).
Finding themselves in trouble early, the Paladins struggled to gain much momentum early on. With Western jumping out in front 11-4, RMC quickly had a hole to dig out of. Although they tried to get themselves back into set, the Paladins had a difficult time sustaining any type of run. For the remainder of the set, the Mustangs would continue to widen their advantage en route to a 25-11 win.
In the second set, Western was once again able to take an early lead. However, this time, the Paladins would figure out a way to battle back. Trailing 7-4, RMC would go on a 5-2 run, capped off by an
Alex Tessier service ace to tie the set 9-9. Following an error on the ensuing serve though, suddenly Western grabbed hold of the momentum again, and would not let go. Taking seven of eight points, the Mustangs opened up a 16-10 lead. Despite RMC's efforts to slow down Western, the Mustangs continued to roll, winning the set 25-14.
Able to stick with the Mustangs initially in the third set, the Paladins were tied 5-5 with Western. Again though, momentum seemed to swing the way of the Mustangs, with Western going on a 5-1 run to take a 10-6 lead. RMC would trim the deficit to two at 11-9, but that was as close as they would get before the Mustangs pulled away to win the set 25-13.
Offensively for the Paladins, they were led by
Andrew Marchi who finished the match with four kills. Meanwhile,
Andrew Gallant led the team in assists with 14 and digs with four.
Following the break, which will take the team into the New Year, the Paladins resume their 2024-25 schedule when they pay a visit to the Trent Excalibur on January 11.
À leur dernier match au calendrier avant la pause d'un mois, les Paladins du CMR étaient de retour en action samedi après-midi pour leur deuxième match en deux jours contre les Mustangs de Western. Tentant de retrouver le Sentier de la victoire, les Paladins ne sont pas parvenus à leur fin, s'inclinant en trois manches aux mains des Mustangs (11-25, 14-25 et 13-25).
Se retrouvant en difficulté en début de rencontre, les Paladins ne sont pas parvenus à trouver leur rythme. Western a démarré la première manche en prenant les devants 11-4. Tenant de sortir du gouffre, les Paladins n'ont pas aligné suffisamment de points pour réduire l'écart si bien que les Mustangs se sont enfuis avec une victoire de 25-11.
En deuxième manche, Western a de nouveau pris les devants tôt. Cette fois, les Paladins ont remonté la pente. Tirant de l'arrière 7-4, le CMR a remporté cinq de sept échanges suivants pour créer l'égalité 9-9, notamment sur un as au service d'
Alex Tessier. Après une erreur sur le service suivant, Western était soudainement devant à nouveau et n'a plus regardé derrière. Remportant sept des huit échanges suivants, les Mustangs ont pris l'initiative 16-10 et malgré les efforts du CMR de ralentir les Mustangs, ces derniers ont galopé vers un gain de 25-14.
Tenant la route avec Western en début de troisième manche, les Paladins et les Mustangs étaient à égalité 5-5. Le vent semblait toutefois davantage dans les voiles des Mustangs qui ont remporté cinq de six échanges suivants pour mener 10-6, bien que le CMR a ensuite réduit l'écart à 11-9. C'est toutefois le plus près que les deux équipes ont été puisque les Mustangs se sont échappés pour gagner 25-13.
Andrew Marchi a dominé les efforts offensifs des Paladins avec quatre attaques marquantes tandis qu'
Andrew Gallant a été le meilleur des siens avec 14 passes et quatre récupérations.
Après la pause, qui s'étendra au-delà du Nouvel An, les Paladins disputeront leur prochain match le 11 janvier en rendant visite à l'Excalibur de Trent.
