Returning to action Saturday afternoon in London, the RMC Paladins were back on the court to take on the Western Mustangs. Trying to bounce back from their defeat the day before, the Paladins battled but would come up short in the end, losing 3-0 (18-25, 14-25, 22-25).
The Paladins came out of the gates with plenty of energy on Saturday. Although Western was able to build a small lead quickly, RMC responded with a four-point run to pull themselves within one of the Mustangs at 8-7. All through the middle stages of the set, the score would stay quite close. RMC was unable to take the lead, but stayed within a couple of points. However, trailing 18-16, the Paladins saw the Mustangs start to pull away. Winning five straight points, Western increased their lead to 23-16 before winning the set 25-18.
Similarly, to the opening set, the Paladins once again found themselves down early before making a run to get back into the set. Trailing 7-2, RMC quickly won five straight points to even the score 7-7. From there though, the No. 10 team in the country began to assert themselves. Winning 12 of the next 16 points, Western was able to distance themselves from the Paladins. The Mustangs ultimately finish off the set 25-14.
Determined to back into the match despite trailing by two sets, the Paladins got back to work. Although Western went up 4-1, the Paladins again showed their grit as they eventually getting the set tied 12-12, before taking a 13-12 lead. From that point on, hardly anything separated the two sides. With the score winding up tied seven more times, the two teams were all square late at 22-22. The next three points would all go to Western though as the Mustangs were able to put the Paladins away.

Eve Smith recorded six kills for RMC.
Jayda Phillipson had the team-high in assists, while
Lilie Demelo led RMC in digs with 10.
With the 2024 portion of their schedule now behind them, the Paladins will be off for the next month. RMC will return to action on January 11 when they make the trip to Peterborough to take on the Trent Excalibur.
De retour sur le terrain samedi après-midi à London, les Paladins du CMR affrontaient les Mustangs de Western pour une deuxième fois en autant de journées. Tentant de rebondir de leur défaite de la veille, les Paladins ont été pris de court, s'inclinant en trois manches (18-25, 14-25 et 22-25).
Les visiteuses avaient pourtant bien entamé ce match avec beaucoup d'énergie. Western s'est d'abord donné une petite priorité avant que le CMR réplique avec une séquence de quatre points pour réduire son retard à un point (8-7). Le pointage est resté serré sur les 19 échanges suivants, au terme desquels Western menait 18-16. Les hôtes se sont ensuite écartés en marquant cinq points de suite et sept des neuf états suivants pour gagner 25-18.
Comme en première manche, les Paladins se sont retrouvés une fois de plus en retard en début d'engagement avant de remonter la pente en marquant cinq points de suite pour créer l'égalité 7-7. Les Mustangs, classées dixièmes au pays, ont ensuite remporté 12 des 16 échanges suivants pour créer un écart important et l'emporter 25-14.
Déterminées à revenir dans le match malgré un retard de deux manches à zéro, les joueuses des Paladins se sont remises au travail en troisième manche. Western a d'abord pris les devants 4-1, puis les Paladins ont bataillé pour créer l'égalité 12-12, avant de prendre les devants 13-12. FÀ partir de ce moment, l'égalité s'est maintenue jusqu'à ce que ce soit 22-22. Les trois échanges suivants ont été remportés par Western qui a fermé la porte sur ce match, l'emportant 25-22.

Jayda Phillipson a été la meilleure au chapitre des passes et
Lilie Demelo a accumulé 10 récupérations pour le CMR.
Maintenant que la portion 2024 du calendrier est terminée, les Paladins profiteront d'un mois de congé et seront de retour au jeu le 11 janvier alors qu'elles rendront visite à l'Excalibur de Trent à Peterborough.
