Back in action Friday night, the RMC Paladins men's volleyball team continued their 2024-25 season with their first road match of the campaign. In the Waterloo, the Paladins battled the Warriors in the first of their two-match weekend, with RMC dropping a three-set decision to Waterloo (13-25, 23-25, 17-25) in the first match.
Trying to shake off the bus legs, the Paladins fell behind early to Waterloo, as the Warriors jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead. Despite their efforts to try to bridge the gap, RMC did not have much luck in shrinking the Waterloo advantage, as the Warriors went on to win the set 25-13.
The second set, however, was much tighter. As the Paladins looked to even the match at one set a piece, they began to go back and forth with Waterloo. After taking a narrow one-point lead early in the set, RMC and Waterloo then found themselves tied 8-8. From there, the two teams would wind up tied ten more times, before the score reached 21-21.
However, it was Waterloo that was able to put together back-to-back points, building a 23-21 lead. Although the Paladins would earn a couple of points back, it was not quite enough, as the Warriors clawed their way to a 25-23 win.
Determined to get back in the match in set number three, RMC continued to fight. Taking an early 5-2 lead, the Paladins were able to get momentum on their side for the first handful of points. Unfortunately, with RMC up 7-5, Waterloo began to make their move. Winning 10 of the next 11 points, the Warriors, all of a sudden, built up a 15-8 advantage. Not looking back, Waterloo was able to keep the Paladins at bay the rest of the way, going on to win the set 25-17.
On the stat sheet, first-year left side,
Tommy Roussel had a team-high 11 kills for RMC. Team captain
Andrew Gallant led the team in assists with 19, while Roussel and
Carter Liu tied for the team-high in digs with three each.
RMC will now look to bounce back in less than 24-hours. On 9 November at 1600hrs, they will return to the court in Waterloo for a second consecutive match with the Warriors.

Malgré leurs efforts de remontée, les joueurs du CMR n'ont pas connu trop de succès à réduire l'avance, marquant 12 points sur les 31 échanges qui ont suivi pour s'incliner 25-13.
La deuxième manche a toutefois été plus serrée. Alors que les Paladins cherchaient à créer l'égalité, ils ont commencé à échanger les points avec Waterloo. Prenant les devants par un point en début de manche, les Paladins ont été rattrapés alors que le pointage était de 8-8. Cette égalité a persisté jusqu'à ce que le pointage atteigne la marque de 21-21. Waterloo a marqué les deux points suivants, puis a remporté deux des quatre échanges qui ont conclu la manche sur un pointage gagnant de 25-23.
Déterminés à revenir dans le match en troisième manche, les Paladins n'ont pas baissé les bras. Menant 5-2, les visiteurs ont dicté le rythme sur les premiers échanges. Alors que le CMR menait 7-5, Waterloo a remporté 10 des 11 échanges suivants pour soudainement prendre les devants 15-8. Sans regarder derrière, Waterloo a gardé les Paladins à distance en route vers un gain de 25-17.

Tommy Roussel a dominé les siens avec 11 attaques marquantes pour le CMR. Le capitaine
Andrew Gallant a ajouté 19 passes, puis Roussel et
Carter Liu ont conclu le match à égalité avec trois récupérations chacun.
Le CMR cherchera à rebondir en moins de 24 heures puisque les deux mêmes équipes ont à nouveau rendez-vous à Waterloo, samedi à 16 h pour le deuxième et dernier match de leur série du weekend.
