As the OUA regular season continues to wind down, the RMC Paladins returned to the court in North Bay, Ont., for their second match in as many days with the Nipissing Lakers. Battling a Nipissing team that is fighting for their playoff lives, the Paladins did their best to match the Lakers intensity, but ultimately came up short against Nipissing 3-1 (15-25, 7-25, 25-18, 12-25)
Following a back and forth start to the opening set, Nipissing began to distance themselves from RMC through the middle stages. Leading 6-5, the Lakers were quickly able to turn that advantage into 16-7. Despite winning five of the next seven points, the Paladins were unable to dig much more into the Nipissing lead, and would drop the opening set 25-15.
The second set for RMC was a tough one. Trying anything and everything to establish some momentum, it was just one of those sets for the Paladins. The Lakers would jump out in front early and never look back, winning the set 25-7.
With their backs against the wall, trailing two sets to none, the Paladins were not fazed. Putting together one of their best sets of the season, especially later in the set, RMC continued to fight, looking to work their way back into the match. With the two teams tied 10-10 in the third, the Paladins really started to click. Going on three separate two-point runs, a three-point run and a crucial six-point run, RMC was able to force a fourth set, taking the third 25-18.
Unfortunately, for the Paladins, Nipissing came out flying to start the fourth and did not allow for any of RMC's momentum to carry over. The Lakers went on to win the first four points of the set, before later building an 11-4 advantage. Although still determined to get back in it, this time, the deficit proved too large to overcome, with Nipissing winning the final set 25-12.
Ashley Raymond and
Emma Titley served as the offensive catalysts on Sunday with seven and six kills, respectively.
Jayda Phillipson led the Paladins in assists with 15, while Raymond recorded a team-high 10 digs.
With just one weekend to go in their 2023-24 schedule, the Paladins will prepare for a trip to Thunder Bay, Ont., where they will take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves on February 16 and 17.

Disputant une de leurs meilleures manches de la saison, particulièrement sur les derniers échanges, les joueuses du CMR ont continué de lutter, cherchant à revenir dans ce match. Avec une égalité de 10-10, l'attaque des Paladins s'est mise en marche. Avec trois séquences distinctes de trois points et une importante séquence de six points, le CMR a été en mesure de forcer une quatrième manche grâce à un gain de 25-18.
Malheureusement pour les Paladins, Nipissing a connu un début de manche enflammé et a éteint toute tentative des Paladins de renverser la situation. Les Lakers ont remporté les quatre premiers points, pour prolonger leur avance à 11-4. Bien qu'elles n'aient pas baissé les bras, les joueuses des Paladins n'ont pas surmonté le retard et se sont inclinées 25-12.

Emma Titley ont été les moteurs de l'attaque avec sept et six attaques marquantes respectivement.
Jayda Phillipson a mené les Paladins avec 15 passes tandis que Raymond a ajouté 10 récupérations, un sommet chez les siennes.
Avec un dernier weekend d'activité au menu de la saison 2023-2024, les Paladins prendront la direction de Thunder Bay pour leurs matchs contre les Thunderwolves de Lakehead, les 16 et 17 février.
