In what was their final home match of the 2023-24 OUA season, the RMC Paladins not only honoured their graduating senior's with a special ceremony before the match, but also with a commendable performance during the match as well. Welcoming the York Lions for the second time in as many days on Saturday afternoon, the Paladins fought valiantly, but did not quite have enough in the end, falling 3-1 (16-25, 25-27, 25-23, 20-25).
Turning in to an intense match as it went along, the opening set did not exactly begin with that same intensity. Trying to find a rhythm early, the Paladins were struggled to get much going in their favour early on. Falling behind 11-6, the deficit continued to grow throughout the set, despite RMC's best efforts. Extending the lead to 20-11, forcing RMC into their second timeout of the set, York would go on to finish it off, 25-16.
The second set, however, is where everything picked up. Long rallies, hits, blocks, digs, there was a little bit of everything as the two teams tried to reach 25. Initially, it was RMC going up 11-7 and later 15-9 before the Lions pushed back. Winning six straight rallies, York ties the set 15-15. The rest of the way, the lead would not go much beyond a point for either team. At 24-23 it was the visitors getting the first set-point. After the Paladins battled it off, they then did it again, trailing 25-24. However, at 26-25, RMC was unable to accomplish the feat a third time and dropped the set 27-25.
Much like the second, the third set was full of action and tense moments as well. Tied 5-5 initially, it was the Lions who would start to take some control through the middle stages. York had a few different two-point leads at 13-11 and 17-15, but RMC would continue to battle back and eventually take a 21-18 lead of their own. Then up 23-19, the Paladins forced York into their second timeout of the set. After a Lions push, RMC was able to fend off their comeback effort and take the set 25-23, forcing a fourth.
Trying to end the match in four, the Lions were able to achieve an 11-6 advantage early on. As quickly as it was built up though, it was torn down even faster. Five points later, RMC was right back in it and had tied the set 11-11. Going back and forth, the Paladins would take a 19-17 lead late, but York would go on to win the next three points and jump back out in front. From there, the Lions would not look back. Taking five of the next six rallies, York was able to win the set 25-10 and the match 3-1.

Cassidy Chang all received gifts from the Paladins and a warm applause from family, friends and fans.
Leading the Paladins, both
Elisa Markentin and
Eve Smith had five kills each. Chang registered a team-high 17 assists, while Boileau led RMC in digs with 18.
For the Paladins, they will now turn their attention to the Nipissing Lakers. RMC will hit the road to North Bay next weekend and battle Nipissing on February 10 and 11.

Le match a grimpé en intensité au fil des manches, si bien que la première manche a démarré lentement. Tentant de trouver leur rythme, les joueuses des Paladins ont eu de la difficulté à bien entrer dans cette rencontre. Tirant de l'arrière 11-6, ce déficit s'est accru au fil des échanges, malgré les meilleurs espoirs du CMR. En retard 20-11, le CMR a pris son deuxième temps d'arrêt de la manche, puis York a conclu pour l'emporter 25-16.
En deuxième manche toutefois, les choses ont un peu accéléré. Les échanges ont été plus longs et les attaques, les contres et les récupérations se sont multipliés alors que les deux équipes ont tout tenté pour parvenir à 25 points en premier. Initialement, le CMR a pris les devants 11-7 et 15-9, avant que les Lions répliquent. Remportant six échanges consécutifs, York a créé l'égalité 15-15. Ni une ni l'autre des équipes n'a pu profiter de plus d'un point. À 24-23, les visiteurs ont eu droit au premier point de manche. Après qe les Paladins aient renversé la situation, York a repris les devants 25-24, puis 26-25, mettant fin à la manche l'emportant 27-25.
Comme en deuxième manche, la troisième a été chargée de moments chargés de tension et d'action. À égalité 5-5, les Lions ont commencé à prendre contrôle des échanges à mi-chemin dans la manche. York s'est donné des avances de deux points à 13-11 et 17-15, mais le CMR a renversé la vapeur pour mener 21-18. En avant 23-19, les Paladins ont poussé York à prendre son deuxième temps d'arrêt de la manche. Après une poussée des Lions, les CMR ont éteint les espoirs de remontée et ont remporté la manche 25-23, poussant la rencontre en quatrième manche.
Décidées à mettre fin à cette rencontre, les joueues des Lions ont d'abord pris les devants 11-6. Cette avance a été comblée aussi rapidement qu'elle a été bâtie alors que le CMR a marqué cinq points de suite pour créer l'égalité 11-11. Les deux équipes se sont échangé l'avance jusqu'à ce que les Paladins mènent 19-17, mais York a remporté les trois échanges suivants pour repasser devant pour ne plus regarder derrière. Remportant cinq des six échanges qui ont suivi, York a remporté la manche 25-10 et la rencontre 3-1.

Les Paladins se tourneront maintenant vers les Lakers de Nipissing avec un déplacement à North Bay le weekend prochain pour des matchs les 10 et 11 février.
