Going up against one of the top teams in the country Friday night, the RMC Paladins hit the road for a weekend visit with the York Lions. Playing in their first of two matches with York, the Paladins ultimately came up short on Friday, dropping a 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 17-25) decision to the No. 9 team in Canada.
Although they were able to exchange points with the Lions through much of the opening set, an early four-point run for York proved to be the difference maker. Despite pushes from RMC, they would trim the lead down to four on multiple occasions, but were not able to get any closer than that, dropping the first set 25-17.
In the second set, York was once again able to establish a lead early on. This time though, the Lions would gradually add to their lead throughout the set, creating enough distance between themselves and RMC that the Paladins could not recover. Despite their best efforts, RMC was unable to gain much ground in the set, falling 25-16.
Looking to keep the match alive, the Paladins got off to a much better start in the third. Going point for point with York, RMC managed to take a lead on three different occasions. However, tied 12-12, the Paladins began to lose pace. A four-point run by York, followed shortly after by a three-point York run would open up the set and lead the Lions to another 25-17 win.

Tommy Roussel had the team-high in kills with nine.
Andrew Gallant led the team in assists with 23, while
Yanick Roy led RMC in digs with seven.
The Paladins will return to the court on February 1 for a second straight match against York.

Bien qu'ils aient su échanger point sur point avec les Lions pendant la majeure partie de la première manche, une séquence hâtive de quatre points de York a fait la différence. Malgré des poussées du CMR, l'écart s'est rapproché à quatre points à plusieurs reprises, mais jamais plus, conduisant à un revers de 25-17.
En deuxième manche, York a une fois de plus rapidement pris les devants. Cette fois, les Lions ont graduellement ajouté à leur avance, hors de la portée des Paladins. Malgré leurs meilleurs efforts, les joueurs du CMR n'ont pas été en mesure de réduire l'écart, s'inclinant 25-16.
Cherchant à garder ce match en vie, les Paladins ont bien mieux démarré la troisième manche. Échangeant les points avec York, le CMR est parvenu à prendre les devants trois fois. Cependant, à égalité 12-12, le rythme a baissé chez les visiteurs. Une séquence de quatre points de York, puis une autre de trois points leur a permis de s'échapper vers une autre victoire de 25-17.
